This pertains to Canadian Shaw Direct Customers who use Shaw Direct Customers. I called Shaw Direct to purchase a 75CM dish and in the course of the conversation, I learned that Shaw Direct, as of May 30, 2013, will no longer assist any Shaw Direct customers who are temporarily located outside of Canada. I asked if that meant that I'll be shutdown like Bell ExpresVu did to me, if Shaw Direct becomes aware of me viewing Shaw Direct service in the US and the answer was NO, but they would no longer help with setup etc. While the fellow, who I was doing business with, wasn't sure, he thought that is was a CRTC directive. After I finished up my business with Shaw Direct, I contacted the CRTC and I was told that they did not issue any directive to Shaw Direct in this regard and that it was probably a simple business decision because they have a new satellite that does not shine very far south of the Canadian Border. It seems to me to be a business decision with no regard for the customer. I also emailed Industry Canada and asked for any specific regulation that applies to this situation.
I left an email with SHAW DIRECT asking them to explain their decision and to provide any Directives and/or Regulations that support it. I would suggest that all Canadian RV'rs who use SHAW DIRECT Satellite service get on their case immediately. The more the merrier.

we are in Quartzsite. Have the new 600 series hd receiver but the old LNB on the 75cm dish. Connected to shaw first try.(as in previous years) Service to the tv is excellent. We get all the channels we did in Ontario. Even the regular HD channels. We are not connected to a phone line here or back home. We did not upgrade to the new LNB. We spent 3 yrs in Desert Gold in Brenda, had no problems with our shaw service.
Don't know what else to tell you. We are not having any problems. Dona

If you have time maybe you could help your neighbour lewiVIBC parked at the same RV park that are having so much trouble. I am sure it will be a simple fix.

Just talked to 3 more people from the island and they all have no problem with their Shaw Direct so I am thinking that you are not really on the correct two satellites.

I would suggest that you contact Paul with Satellite Advantage in Quartzite, he in my opinion knows his satellite stuff and also is good to deal with.

Know of about 10 people here in Yuma including me with Shaw Direct service. We all have full service except for any channels on the new G1 bird. Some of them have the new LNB with a updated 600 series PVR.

I see that the White Pages in Yuma and Quartzite still carry ads from Technicians that service Shaw systems so if you are in this area contact these technicians for help.

We were just told by a Shaw rep that the signals south of the boarder are going to be hit and miss for those purchased prior to April 2013 and nil for those purchased after. My box was before and Dish after. Mornings I get connection,
10 to 1 no connection. After 1 connection maybe. After 4pm I have connection fore the night. We were told the problem is being caused by the "CRTC".

I am not sure what your problem is but our signal has not missed a beat since leaving Canada and all others are having the same experience that we have talked to. Where are you at that is giving you the problem. We are currently in AZ.

This is the first of many posts with regards to shaw direct and services outside Canada.
Read Shaws terms of service, (not the short version) updated May 2013.
Service will only be at the service address in canada and connected to a working phone line at that address.
In other words your rv licence plate number will not do, even if has its own postal code:). Secondly even if your Canadian cell phone has a phone jack to connect the receiver to.
So after years of promoting their "home away from home" package (that I bought into), it's gone............poof.
I found an ad for a RV show in Penticton BC dated April 26-28 2013 promoting the use of shaw's service. "we offer service for your home or RV from Alaska to Mexico" (google rv show Penticton).
So does one hand not know what the other is doing?? ๐Ÿ˜ž

Wow, exactly what I have wanted to say several times but never knew quite how to word it. :W

I don't have Shaw...
I no longer need sat reception while in the USA...
I know things have changed at Bell and Shaw for reception while in the USA...
I know for the near and long range future Shaw will still work on most channels in the USA but Bell won't...
The info is here and elsewhwere if you will read and understand it folks...

REMEMBER-when talking to a Shaw rep now, you may have to read betweeen the lines a bit. They may be bound by company to not say certain things so really may want to help you but just plain can't!
