No you can't
there is NO consumer hdmi input dvd recorder available in the USA
your DVD or bluray is hdmi "out only"
you Can use composite video out and record on VHS tape or vhs/dvd recorder that accepts composite A/V input
IF you want the same quality as the DVR recording
something like the cloner BOX, or similar device is the only way
also holding the phone or other camera in front of TV is a poor way of doing it
and the very last choice
