What Mr. Wizard said, but the base reason is
HDCP limitations that can be a PITA even WITH HDCP compliant equipment that doesn't always play well. There are HDCP 'filters' sold out of China since they are illegal in the US. And they are far from perfect either. Besides, the only equipment in the US I'm aware of withnHDMI inputs are TV's, and HDMI/ DVI to HD-SDI converters, and they are HDCP compliant.
