Transfer DTV Program

Is there any way to transfer a recorded program from a Direct TV tuner/recorder to another device ?
I have recorded a TV show about an historical event that I had a part in and would like to transfer that program to a disk or thumb drive.
Thanks

you can do it with a standalone DVD recorder but it has to be done in real time as in while you play it or watch it, Ive been doing it for years even with PPV movies,I do the same with audio but it is an "analog" copy recorded digitally on a standalone audio CD recorder but with the right EQ tecniques my copies sound better than the originals.

I have used the Hauppauge 1512 HD-PVR 2 for years to record HD component video out of my Dish DVR to my PC. Don't have to worry about HDCP issues with HDMI source.

What Mr. Wizard said, but the base reason is HDCP limitations that can be a PITA even WITH HDCP compliant equipment that doesn't always play well. There are HDCP 'filters' sold out of China since they are illegal in the US. And they are far from perfect either. Besides, the only equipment in the US I'm aware of withnHDMI inputs are TV's, and HDMI/ DVI to HD-SDI converters, and they are HDCP compliant.

No you can't
there is NO consumer hdmi input dvd recorder available in the USA
your DVD or bluray is hdmi "out only"

you Can use composite video out and record on VHS tape or vhs/dvd recorder that accepts composite A/V input

IF you want the same quality as the DVR recording
something like the cloner BOX, or similar device is the only way

also holding the phone or other camera in front of TV is a poor way of doing it

and the very last choice
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

X2 for the HDML Cloner (actual name). Works like a charm.

Just play the video, hold your SmartPhone or Iphone in front of the television and record it. Then you can transfer it any way you want.

Also, most television stations, like PBS has their programs available on DVD. You can order them on-line. I've purchased a few PBS broadcasts that I enjoyed and wanted to keep. Yea, you have to pay for it, but it's a lot cheaper than buying additional equipment you may never use again.

Directly transfer and use?
No
However there is an indirect way, if you don't mind spending $99 and some easy work

It's called the hdmi Cloner box
Available on Amazon
It connects between the DVR and your tv with hdmi cables
USB drive/stick plugs into the box
Works like a VHS for hdmi content
Records in hi def as an mp4 file direct to USB

No remote, no timed recording, just push the button to start and stop
I can explain it to you.
