I am using a Dell laptop with windows 7.
I have several photos on some discs and wish to move some of them into a file on my computer so I can make a disc with only those I wish to have. How do I go about creating this file and moving them into it?
Hope I asked this right???

Yes, I should have thought if that when I gave directions to save to Flash.

The procedure is the same for saving to an external HD, and it's a good idea to transfer all to the HD rather than a flash. I agree with the others here, that flash is OK for temporary storage, but permanent should be a drive meant for long term use.

Another lesson. Never store files on flash drives. Consider them as temp only.

The memory used to make these tend be leftovers or memory that does not meet the standards used in SSD. So tend not to be as reliable.

Had a young neighbor have her thumb drive crash with her term paper on it. I wrote he teacher a note letting her know the drive crashed and we were working on it.

^^ THIS, is extremely important!

Do not solely depend on a Flash drive or memory card as a backup!!!!

I HAVE had flash drives AND MEMORY CARDS FAIL.

I highly recommend, #1 EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE (not SSD)as a main backup.

#2 Data CD-R or Data DVD-R or +R (I have had a few burned audio discs using CD-R fail but so far no DVD-Rs have failed).

#3 Flash USB or Memory card

You will note that I don't think much of Flash Memory cards for LONG TERM STORAGE..

Plug the memory stick into a USB port. The memory stick will show up on your menu as a E-drive, or F-Drive, some new letter (Give it a name if you want).

Open the photo folder you want to transfer on the PC .

Highlight the photos you want to transfer (hold down SHIFT key, click each photo you want to transfer - it will highlight all as you go), then save-to the new drive. It should transfer all photos you highlighted. To verify transfer, remove the memory stick, reinsert it in computer, open memory stick on the menu, open saved photos.

You might want to install a new folder on the memory stick before you transfer, to isolate this transfer from later transfers and label it. Then, when you transfer, load into the new folder and save. Repeat for a different category of photos each time - you can save photos in folders in a memory stick just like folders in a PC.

Thank you for that information it sure will help.
One of these days I will learn to use the computer properly.

Right click on an open area of the desktop (or wherever you want this folder) and click NEW and FOLDER. Then you can rename this folder "photos" or anything else you like.

Now, double click on this new folder to open it.

Insert the disc with your photos, and drag and drop the photos into the new folder.

Be careful though, some kinds of discs, you can erase the photo from the disc. If you right click and drag, it will let you select between MOVE and COPY.
Great! About as an simple answer that can be given to someone that obviously knows little about a PC.

It was of great help, very easy also.
Now how to transfer the pictures to a memory stick.

After you do all of the above I would recommend a jump drive. They are easy to store and don't scratch like a disc does. They plug into the usb port and work the same way a disc does for loading or viewing. If your DVD player has a usb port you can view your pictures on your TV. Good Luck

I have Picasa which is a free photo organizer that can be downloaded. When you out a disk in,you should be able to transfer them to Picasa and then organize them as you wish. Then you can put them on a disk or thumb drive.
