Warning about the new RVND 7 GPS and the Dock software.

I recently purchased a new GPS, the RVND 7, however after registering the new unit via the dock software the Good Sam Import icon on the dock software disappeared. I just got off the phone with Rand McNally and they confirmed this. They had no idea why or if it would ever be restored. So if you use the Good Sam Tripmaker to plan trips you won't be able to import the trip(s) to the RVND 7 GPS. The dock software will only import trips created with the Rand version of the tripmaker. If I have known this, and it wasn't disclosed on the Camping World web site, I would have purchased an older Good Sam version like the discontinued 7730 or 7735. Looks like Good Sam and Rand got a divorce!

One more thing to keep in mind is that even though you can't import new trips using the Good Sam tripmaker you can preserve your existing data, address book, existing trips, etc by doing a final backup of your old GPS, register the new GPS, and then do a restore of the old data to the new GPS unit. This works fine as that's what I did to preserve my old data.

UPDATE 12/5/17 I not sure what prompted Rand to add the Good Sam Import icon back on the dock software but I just did an update, the usual construction info, and the Good Sam Import icon is back. Thanks Rand!

Gopackgo, The RVND 7 replaced my old 7710, however I haven't used the new GPS under travel conditions yet. So, until we hit the road next weekend, I don't have a real world answer to your question, will update once we get on the road. I'm assuming there no difference in the 2 units as far as the Sun making the screen difficult to see.

Klatu - I have one of the older Rand 7 inch RV GPS and I find it almost impossible to see when in bright sunlight. I even have the sunshade but that doesn't help much. Does the new '7' fare any better ?

I'm in the market for a new one but I really want one that does not have this problem.

Thanks.

G.S. & R.M. parted ways about a year ago. I have been using a R.M. for several years and have been very pleased with it. It is about time for it to die a natural death so I have recently been looking at the new Rand McNally RV7 OverDryve and noticed that none of their literature mentions RV camp sites. Don't care if they are G.S. affiliated, but like the idea of searching a specific location and finding a campground that I can just plug in as a destination. Anyone out there know is campgrounds are listed on the new OverDryve?
