Which GPS

I'm curious what you felt was unfriendly about it? I did about 2500 miles with it in March. I certainly had my share of trying to get used to how certain features are accessed versus other products that I am more used to. I never attributed that to anything inherently unfriendly about it though. Just curious what your specific experiences were.

Agreed Romer1. TomTom has some really great technology, especially in 2 critical areas - their real time traffic is second to none now that they've brought their HD traffic technology to the US (using anonymous cell phone movement as well as other things) and their IQRoutes technology that knows the real road speeds at 15 minute intervals. The result of both of those things is really, really good route calculation and ETA's. Navteq (now Here) built into the Garmin and Rand McNally units held the accurate ETA prize for many years and it is still good but TomTom has certainly matched that.

TomTom is still playing catch-up in some respects when it comes to lane guidance and freeway signs. It seems that as TeleAtlas (bought by TomTom years ago) built out their maps, they never recorded precisely what the freeway signs text was. Instead, it is almost like they "created" it from the intersecting roads. It seems like they are correcting that over time but I still see exit instructions and supposed road sign imagery that is technically accurate but doesn't match the actual physical road sign. That is a big plus for Here (Garmin) still.

It is amazing to me that in 2014 that no one has nailed this segment yet. Google just announced today that lane guidance is in the latest Google Maps update for Android. Over time everyone keeps getting pieces of what someone else does really well. No one, in my opinion, has nailed the segment yet.

Really don't understand why nobody uses TomTom. They update maps 4x ayear, you can make changes to maps that they then make available to everyone daily.
They have a 6" screen(1605MRV- $229) with lifetime maps.

I have a 1535tm with voice recognition, traffic that's better than Garmins, and accurate.

I purchased the newest Garmin RV GPS RV 760lmt and am fairly disappointed . They have done a very poor job of providing roads that are RV accessible causing one to drive many miles out of your way if you were to follow it. I often had to change to automobile mode just to get it to show where I really wanted to go. The RV services shown in it are a farce. I was about 5 miles from a Camping World and I put in RV services and it would not even show up. You could be parked in front of a place that sells propane or by a dump station and it wants to send you many miles away. I contacted Garmin with these problems and all they told me was to update it which I did to no avail. Garmin did not do enough research for information to sell this thing for $400. It isn't much better than a regular Garmin that I see selling for not much over $100 except that it has a 7 inch screen.
I used this unit in my RV for over 5000 miles this past winter travelling over a large area of the USA.

You might want to check Costco.com to be sure if you have the problematic model. If so, Costco is very good about accepting returns.

We have a meg also, 1700,with lane assit. We can do the rest. And now it's all happy-camping

I think we have that $100 Magellan.

I have two Magellan units, in RV and in Toad. They are a couple of years apart in generation, and the RV unit was updated to latest software last month. Yet both have the same speaker-muting bug (it won't stay muted), which "speaks" loudly about Magellan's quality control.

And there are other annoyances; when I manually set the zoom level for driving, and the unit zooms in to show close-up of intersection/interchange -- potentially very helpful -- it is unable to zoom back out to the prior level. So I have this feature disabled.

Maps accuracy is not bad, though not perfect. (It's too bad a GPS can't learn about a new road by being driven down it.)

What is frustrating is the Points Of Interest. Both units have Magellan and AAA POI databases. I sometimes find my destination RV park which saves typing it in. But what can be said about neither of them including Yellowstone National Park -- the oldest and largest in the world??? It seems like most major but non-commercial parks and famous sights are not listed!

I have to say that navigation guidance is pretty good, fast updating of current location and plenty of advance and detailed warning of turns.

It seems to have problems that my older Magellan units do not have. How could a company allow its products to get worse? (Guess I should ask this of certain RV makers too...)

We have an older Garmin Nuvi, and a relatively new Magellan. They are "basic" units, with no custom RV/truck features.

Wife and I both do not like the Magellan. The Garmin is just easier to use and read while driving. That seems to mesh with other comments, the Garmin just seems easier to use.

Just my very awesome and accurate opinion!
