There are a number of local & regional wireless Internet providers that offer "unlimited" WiFi or "WiFi like" services and support Netflix etc.

I manage one of them and we tolerate Netflix but STRONGLY encourage users to set the streaming quality to medium or low to conserve bandwidth.

Been on the road RV'ing for 7 years with this bad boy and have never been without service barring Albany,Georgia, which is in the middle of nowhere anyway.

Wow, after reading all what these new data plans costs now and the limited data use, throttling you back when you get close etc.....

I think I am going to go out and buy a bigger and better velvet storage box to really protect my 8 year old Sprint USB mobile broadband internet access with "Unlimited Data":B

Yea but what we need is lower cost (wireless/cellular - more data for the money spent) service, you might think you get a lot of service thru your phone but when you access thru your laptop or watch Amazon on TV the service DATA goes very fast, I can burn thru half my monthly service just by watching two movies

you must buy the wifi from onstar it's thru them-i read the fine print

#1 problem is confusion
the term Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) is assumed by the general populace to be much broader and longer range than it is, many confuse it with cellular and call cell data wi-fi

your choices for mobile data ( that you carry with you )
are satellite
or cellular service
cellular can be either a dedicated wifi router AKA hotspot/access point
or a cell phone with the same capability

there is NO beamed wi-fi portable device service
where you buy WI-FI direct (not cellular based) service that works anywhere you are

there is a service called WiMax, which is wifi of a sort
it is done on a local basis and provides a 4g broadband service
it is usually bundled with a hotspot device that also uses 3g cellular and uses "SPRINT" ? cellular connection for the 3g part
Sprint bought Wimax a few years ago to augment their service capabilities

Have you tried to update windows (Update Tuesday) at McDonalds? It does not work. Go to a Nascar race where Sprint brings in many many extra towers and see how much data you can actually download (not much). If you are into Netflix or other such services, you might be better off getting a connection from the local service like Bright Star, Comcast or the like.

Most WiFi is short distance and not available on the road. As others have mentioned, on the road coverage is usually cell based that uses a hotspot to convert the cell coverage to a local WiFi (even the built in WiFi you mentioned from Chevy). While you can find free WiFi networks at many locations (such as McDonalds, libraries, etc) in general you need to be in or near the facility to pick up the signal.
