Stopped at a Walmart in Morris, IL and had free Walmart WiFi. First WiFi I've found at Walmart.

File their tax returns on a smartphone or tablet?

Sure, why not? I've done it over the phone before... Many many many years ago.

I can do everything I need to on a tablet....specifically my IPad Mini... Including running Windows 7.... (Let the head scratching begin)

My little ipad even makes a nice extended desktop for my MacBook when I need it to.

Thanks!

Glad this thread is staying light and on-topic and in the correct forum.

Should go in tech section is my point.

No - *NOT* Tech Section ("Tech Issues" forum)!

It belongs in the "Technology Corner" forum.

But that's up to the Mods - until then, "Fifth Wheels" have it..:W

No, store a boatload of personal information on their phone/tablet. People are more and more using mobile devices for things that we once reserved for computers.

Even without the threat of WiFi hackers, carrying a lot of financial and personal information on a mobile device is ill advised. Nothing like making it easy for identity thieves. Then people wonder "How could this happen to me?".

EDIT Over 4.5 million smartphones were lost or stolen in the US in 2013. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Many Walmarts now have wifi. Also, Home Depots have routers located outside on top of the buildings. We used them on our trip through the U.S. and Canada. HD loves rvers. We were never refused once in either country.

How many people file their tax returns on their smartphone or tablet? I personally don't pay bills or access any significant financial information on my smartphone or tablet . But then, I don't spill my life on facebook or twitter either. I've found out more than I need to about others on the net and I'm not even a hacker.

Yes we've already established public networks are unsecure.

These days people carry more personal information on their smart phones than computers and why your "wifi is not for laptops" statement doesn't make sense. People don't just use smartphones and tablets for playing games.

Open access WiFi is an unsecure network connection. Access at your own risk. Devices with financial or confidential information should not be connected to unsecure networks. It's that simple.

WiFi is for fun and game devices. NEVER for a laptop or desktop used for computer applications. If you can't afford your own secure access, don't bother to turn it on.
