So long as hardware drivers are available for your Netbook, it shouldn't be an issue. I upgraded one of my DELL mini Netbook from WIN XP to Android OS. So can run apps from Google Play store.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll order 7 from eBay and run with it. I have 2 gb of ram, and when I bought it ,it was available with either 7 or xp. I have 7 on the big puter at home and it runs fine .

I will stick to Win 7, I have heard of to many problems with Win 10. MS is famous for letting the public beta test their programs then is a couple of years they finally get the bugs out...Not just their windows programs but every program they release.

Netbooks are very limited in CPU and RAM, and I doubt Win7 will run very well on them.
I'm saying this from first hand experience as my full time job is an IT tech.
Win7 doesn't run well on 2gb of RAM in old/slow CPU computers/netbooks.

I have a Toshiba NB205 netbook that came with XP and is now running Win7 pro with no problems at all.

It has the original 160GB hard drive, 1GB memory, and Intel Atom processor with no upgrades.

I believe it was the bottom line of the Toshiba netbook computers of the time. Never the less, it works just fine and is used as a backup computer and goes with me, along with my regular Win 10 laptop when we travel.

Yes, in my opinion it was worth the approximately $100 cost to upgrade it as it is much more stable and easier to use with the new operating system.
Hope this helps you a bit.

I had an Acer Aspire One netbook with 1.5GB of RAM that originally came with XP. I upgraded it to Win 7 Pro and used it that way for about 5 years. Worked great, I preferred Win 7 over XP, not sure of any real advantage to it.

Later, I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8. I felt it ran better with Win 8 than it ever did with XP or 7. Lastly, I upgraded it from Win 8 to Win 10, it still worked great.

Since XP is no longer supported by MS, I'd recommend upgrading to at least Win 7.

I upgraded two WIN 7 and two WIN 8.1 Laptops back when WIN 10 hit the market. These laptops are now all running WIN 10 and in my area here I am running two 24-inch external monitors and other external items. The main DELL Inspirion 17R5737 LAPTOP runing Intel Core I7 only gets opened to start up win10 from its keyboard - then I close the lid on it...

Everything got transferred over just fine and I run my laptops in WIN 7 mode with ICONs on the left side of the screen and taskbar on the bottom. I run a screen saver on the main screen showing night scenes just like I did when I had WIN7 and WIN 8... WIN10 is super fast for me... Click Click and it is up and running when I start up. my older units would take three or minutes to start up haha...

I also did not subscribe to anything that WIN 10 was pushing on everyone. I still run MS OFFICE version 2007 on my laptops.

The only programs I could not get working on WIN10 was my autocad like drawing programs. I still use my DELL M90 WORK STATION Laptop for my drawings as well as my EMAIL ACCOUNTs... WIN 10 scared me away from using the MS EDGE browser and I didn't want to subscribe for MS OFFICE 360 and have monthly payments to do...

I could have used MS OFFICE 2009 OUTLOOK for my email accounts on the WIN 10 machines but that also scared me how WIN10 was being constantly sending data all the time to the internet. Have no idea what is being sent out all the time... I am old enough to remember way back when MS was copying our hard drives to an Australia site for whatever reason... I decided to keep away from WIN10 as much as I could and do my backups on external DISK DRIVEs etc... I save anything important to me on a USB external disk drive or thumb drive. Anything using the 'CLOUD' really scares me...

SO far so good haha...

When folks come over for visit here always say I thought you changed over to WIN 10. Everything here looks and works just like WIN7...

I am still getting upgrades for my XP-PRO DELL M90 Work Station which I though was going away when WIN10 came on the scene. Just got a big update two days ago on my M90. I did get a message from ADOBE FLASH for a new upgrade and when I clicked on it to upgrade my version it stated that only a few things would work with adobe flash since I was not using WIN10. SO I just left it as was hehe... Now every other day I get a notice my FLASH needs upgraded on my M90 XP-PLUS Laptop...

When I can find a good less expensive drawing program that works good for me using WIN 10 I will eventually drop my M90 Work station. It doesn't have enough RAM or CPU to convert over to WIN 10...

End of extended support for Windows 7 is January 14, 2020. We have a couple of Acer netbooks that have been very reliable. Due to tablets and phones we haven't used them for some time so I' considering putting a Linux distro on them.

I upgraded my desktop and two laptops from Windows XP Home to Windows 7 Ultimate. It is easy to do if you follow the instructions. Since XP is out of support, it is wise to do if the netbook will support it. Note: With Windows 10 available, Windows 7 will lose support also.
