I recently used AdwCleaner to get rid of Sweetpacks which must have installed from some free app I downloaded. It was apparently causing noticeable Google search delays in Firefox. I had also lost the ability to print from Firefox to my Epson wireless printer, though my Brother laser worked fine connected via USB.

Apparently, Firefox could not call the Epson wireless print driver, and would just stall in the print quene.

Ran AdwCleaner, and it removed a large number of Sweetpacks entries from Firefox. Long story short, Google searches now fly in Firefox. And my wireless printing has been restored.

I do realize that you can manually disable or remove rogue entries in Firefox configuration files in about:config. But can be tedious and certain browser hijacks can insert registry entries that can download and reinstall missing components. AdwCleaner can clean these out with just two clicks.

I downloaded and ran both AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool even though I didn't have any problems (that I knew of). Both ran flawlessly, removed a whole bunch of stuff, and the computer seems to run fine afterwards.

These are portable apps so don't require installation. They are not installer files. They need elevated privileges to clean out system files such as registry entries.

i Dl both tools and what i got was a 1mb installer file for each one

i don't like this kind of software

i prefer complete DL of the install file, something that does not have to be online to install
something i can keep on a USB stick/drive and use as needed on ANY PC at anytime

AdwCleaner is fairly safe and you should be fine cleaning whatever it finds by default. I've never had an issue with using it. In some rare instances, it may cause some browser extensions to stop functioning. Especially if they were linked to some spyware or adaware.

You can always create a system restore point at Start > Programs > Accessories > System Restore, which is generally a good idea when using any type of system cleanup tool.

AdwCleaner is a handy app to keep on your computer. It will clean out most browser based hijacks and spyware from all parts of your system - browsers, registry, folders, services, etc. A direct download link can be found here AdwCleaner.

Between the two apps, they should pretty much get everything.

1492 Thank very much ! I tried to download AdwCleaner but I was unable to locate a down load button that worked. Maybe had to sign up ?

However I was able to download Junkware Removal Tool(JRT). It removed all sorts of stuff. Reran Spybot S&D and the win32 warning was gone !


sch911 I had located your suggestion from the internet and print the more detailed version. But I did not have the guts to follow the directions. Any thing that mentions Registry scares the ## out of me. However after the JRT removal and the confirmation from Spybot, I went looking for Win32.downloader.gen and could not find it.
