Although I am never an early adopter for anything and let others do the testing I did check the Microsoft website to see if my new Lenovo I Core 7 laptop would run Windows 11 in 2022 and it did pass the requirements should I choose to upgrade then. I have 3 other older laptops for backup and will check them in due time. I am not advocating for Win 11 or MS but posting the link for anyone interested in this check. Cheers

Yep, me too. I'm still using Windows 7. I just don't care for the tablet/phone looking interface. Of course there are several other reasons, but 7 works for me, so here I am. Another semi-Luddite. ๐Ÿ™‚

FWIW, I read that the only processors approved for Windows 11 are Intel, and only latest generation of Intel processors. Has to do with something about secure booting, I do believe.
Not so on the processors. See Here.
Thank you. The last I had read was that only Intel processors were being supported. Nice to know that has changed.

MS says my PC is not compatible with the alpha version of W11 but it will run the pre-release version. It also says it's not compatible with W10 which it has been running quite successfully since before W10 was released.

Really liked W7 and XP. I understand W10 life expires in 2025 so I shall see who outlives who.

XP was the bomb when my employer entered the computer age. 7 was the last good version. Not much love from me for 10. I don't want my desktop looking like a cellphone. Already being e-mail blasted by MS about 11. I'll wait til the announcement they no longer support 10.

Would not be surprised on the rental issue. Many programs we once bought and owned are migrating to that model. The developers gain a life-time revenue stream, or at least a work-life stream. It's makes business sense, maybe, but less sense for the user - especially those for personal use.

Other programs exist. Lots of word programs and photo programs. But those never seems to work quite as well as MSW and PS. Guess we get what we pay for.

I'm wondering if Windows 11 will be closer to the rental rather than "owning" the OS.

Concur !

Win 11 is basically a revenue enhancement for Microsoft.

Yeah, I'm thinking of a new laptop to go with the new 5th wheel, whenever we get it, and it will have Windows 10 since there isn't much alternative. Don't like it, but Bill didn't check with me when it came time to redo Windows. ๐Ÿ™‚

Never buy the latest and greatest. Looks like a new windows machine is in my future. Wife and I have depended on Samsung tablets for most needs and only use my 10 year old HP at tax time running the 10 up grade but slower with every update.

Yeah, maybe. But I believe a lot of the successful ransomware attacks have been on Windows 10 machines, so newer isn't necessarily better. I'm aware of the issues and act accordingly.

Support for Windows 7 ended this past January. You are vulnerable if you are online with it.
