Wingard Playmaker

We need to replace our Dish antenna. Last year we purchased a Dish Playmaker and receiver package (not sure of the model number) after our older Dish antenna quit working while on a trip. The new unit quit working in less than 30 days and we returned it. We are seeking input and recommendations on either the Winegard PL7000. We only use on receiver so don't need a unit that supports two receivers.

Thank you

I would suggest that you look into the Pathway X2.

X2^^. It has the largest reflector of the automatic portables and pulls in the strongest signals. Have been using our for 5+ years and we're very happy with it.

  • The Playmaker worked fine for a short period. At first we weren't sure if it was the antenna or the Wally of even the location we were in. On the travels back home we also tried it in different locations and with our old 211k receiver. When we got home we tried it again with no reception. At that point we were reaching the end of the time we could return it to Walmart for a refund so we sent it back
  • Just out of curiosity - how did you determine the Playmaker was not working? What troubleshooting steps did you follow? I'm asking because I had mine (PL-7000) for 5 years and it works great.

You do realize that the PL-7000 is the original Playmaker. It supports only one receiver and gets signals from only the western arch satellites (110, 119, and 129). Which is great for areas west of the Mississippi and not so good for eastern USA.

The PL-8000 is the newest and most improved Playmaker. It supports two receivers and gets signals from both western arch and the eastern arch satellite (61.5). This makes it the most capable antenna in the Playmaker line.
