Engine heat from older RV

Hello all,

I've got a small area of rubber flooring that has broken apart and come up right next to the engine doghouse cover on my 1974 Dodge Sportsman. Engine heat comes up from the open area and can be quite hot after sometime. I'm asking for your opinion on what would work to block the heat (heat shield, etc)? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Common on those Dodge vans for the floor to rust out between the seat and gas pedal. That would allow the floor to move enough for the seal to come out. Other than that the seal shouldn't move unless the clamps are gone or the gasket was maybe damaged during service.

In addition to installing a gasket as others have suggested I would install another layer of insulation on the inside of the dog house. It made a big difference in reducing the eng heat.

I bet the Dodge dealer can get you an OEM gasket to go on there.

I don't know where you get it, but my old Dodge had a foil covered rubber gasket under the doghouse edge. YOu might try just regular weather stripping. It's cheap and when it breaks up you can replace it.
