First time buyer: floor plan/length or manufacturer

Fist let me say what an awesome site (includes all that contribute). We are just starting to get the RV bug and are doing some of the smart things (i.e., reading everything possible, watching videos, renting first, etc.) We have looked at different types of trailers and RVs and we are leaning towards a class C, most likely used to start (post rental to ensure we enjoy). What I am struggling with is quality (understand this could be subjective) vs. convenience/floor plan. There will be two of us with our two small dogs and we will spend our vacations in the RV exploring the country (couple weeks at a time not full timing). Do RVers like any consumer have favorites? example: seems as if owners of Lazy Daze are fanatical (like I used to e about Honda and now about Ford). Does this hold true for different manufacturers? Reason I ask is that I don's see many used Lazy Daze units out there for sale so they must be appreciated? Would appreciate any and all insights from your vast experience as to how to narrow down a particular manufacturer/motor etc. Thanks so much in advance.
  • The Floorplan also comes with an exterior length ! Consider the places you want to go and check their rules.

A lot of Nationalparks are redistricted to less then 35ft and I had a hard time even then getting around with our 30ft Class A
  • First, find a floorplan you like
second, find brands that have a similar floorplan
third, go look at those brands' models of that plan and decide which one has the best quality/fit and finish.
  • One thing to consider and I don't know if it's important to you or not but Lazy Daze units do not have slides. Personally, this would not be a good thing for us but others might be o.k. with it.
  • I'm sure you've purchased many things in your life and were able to take one look at the choices available and realize which one was the quality product, usually the more expensive one. RV's are similar in that you can usually look at the fit/finish and see who does a better job. Companies typically don't build a custom chassis with all the bells and whistles and then construct a sub standard interior. So....when the inside is well done, so is the stuff you can't see.

The second factor is price.....no matter how you look at it, you get what you pay for. Many companies will add a bunch of cheap frills to make their coach look special, but it' really to hide their lousy construction/product.

Lazy Daze has built a nice coach for years and you can only buy new, direct from their factory. There are many others who build nice Class C motor homes. Typically, they have two - three levels of quality. If you're looking to buy use, try to look for that upper level. In the past few years, only Ford has made a Class C chassis (other than the smaller Sprinter Class), so the chassis will pretty much be the same level of quality throughout each brand,
