first timer questions

Thanks for all the advice. It seems that if I have the money and space, an extra ladder is a handy accessory. And I can also now see the advantages of having a vent cover. Some of these things I'm sure I would have learned along the way, but it is nice to have someone else's experience to lean on.

The main reason I bought the roof vent covers is the material that the roof vents are made off seems to get very brittle and subject to cracking after a few years of exposure to sun. Many reports of people finding them cracked from minor things when they get older like nuts falling from a tree, small branches, etc. The covers protect them from the sun, don't have the same issues with getting brittle and as mentioend above, allow you to crank them open and notr worry if it's raining. Also can open them on the way to the campground to move some air through the camper and not have it so stifling hot when you get there.

If you have money, but not space, THIS
telescoping ladder may be what you need.

A ladder also beats standing on a cooler trying to wrest an awning arm into place so you can drive. Or sweep off the brand new awning (sense a pattern here?) Or check for damage after a windstorm, etc.

We don't have space to carry a ladder but we envy those who do.

Some folks need a ladder to get to the ladder on the back of the coach:B
We need the ladder to get at the top of the slide, if we need to push leaves off.
Also for cleaning the roof, as I'd hate to step in a spot that had weakened. I used to walk the roof....now I climb the ladder, and just look!:)

As others have said, vent is just to allow use of vents when raining. A great option for the vent in the bathroom!

Really can't tell you what you need, because we don't know what you have already? Also, it will depend on your needs. Some folks need to have the Silver and China with them...others eat on paper plates with plasticware.

Walkie-Talkies are nice to have, if you want someone to help you with the backing of the RV.

Depending on where you are going, and how well you know the route, a GPS, a copy of "The Next Exit", and membership in one of the Roadside Assistance programs is a plus!

Ladder? If your real tall you might be able to replace burnt out bulbs in your scare lights, or clean the bugs off your front cap. I'm only 6' so I need all the help I can get.

Vent covers allow you to leave the vents open for ventilation when it is raining.

As said, the extra ladder is for reaching areas that may need cleaning or maintenance. Many of us carry the ladders in pass-thru storage bins, so they're not all as obvious as the ones stored on the roof ladder.

Vent covers allow us to leave our vents open for air circulation even when it's raining. They also protect the inner cover from damage from falling branches, etc. Well worth the modest cost in my opinion.

Vent covers allow the vent to be open during inclement weather keeping moisture from entering your rig. Pretty easy to install without removing vent itself as they mount to the side of the vent flange. One of my favorite mods, sure wish they would come from the factory per-installed as they are relatively inexpensive. Various reasons for bringing an extra ladder include using to mount roof, especially if ladder attached to the rig is suspect, accessing the top half of the RV for checking awnings, lights, seams, vents, satellites, antennas, we use it most often for cleaning bunk windows we have just inches below the roof line.
