KZ Spree, Heartland North Trail or Puma

We are looking to buy our first travel trailer. We will be getting a bunkhouse model and we have narrowed it down to either a Spree by KZ, a North Trail by Heartland or Puma by Palomino. Any suggestions and pros/ cons from everyone would be greatly appreciated.
  • We love our North Trail, and haven't had any major quality issues with it. So far the only problems we have encountered are a loose fitting on the exterior shower, and a small piece of trim fell off the top of the slide inside. We don't have the Caliber edition, and I have had to relocate things to get more tongue weight for a better tow.
  • I always focus on the construction and the materials used, way before any floorplan. It's nice to know if the trailer that you'll be dragging down the road will stay put together or not LOL :B

  • I have had a KZ Spree and now own a Columbus by Palomino. Both have been great. My neighbor has a Heartland North Trail and likes it. All manufacturers make mostly good quality units with an occasional lemon. Check out the construction of any unit closely by looking behind drawers and inside storage bays to see what lies behind the walls as much as you can.

The most important thing in buying a first RV is to think through how you will use it and pick the floorplan that will work best. The floorplan is really what you should focus on most. Good luck.
  • Did you check out any of the trailers in the Winnebago Winnie line? We looked at a lot of trailers last summer before making our purchase, and found the Winnie line to have some very nice features and to be better made than most of the others we saw. If you post specific model numbers, you may get better responses and/or suggestions.
  • We have a NorthTrail 32BUDS and love it. We got the caliber edition which includes the hard surface counter tops. Pulls great, lots of options, well priced, built very well.
