Living in RV but leaving for 2 weeks

Hi guys,

Another question. So much good information here, but a search didn't address out latest question.

We live in the RV where I work. My schedule is work 4 weeks and 2 weeks off. So far the 4 weeks have been going smoothly. No major problems. Coming up is our 2 weeks off. We are planning to drive up to Vegas and check on our house.

My question is what actions we should take in the RV while we are gone. I am guessing we turn off the city water connection, and leave the A/C off while gone. Drain all the tanks, leaving a little water in the black tank.

What other preps do we need to perform?

Thanks.
Michael
  • I'd shut off the water, disconnect and put away the hose, turn off the A/C and that's it. No need to empty any tanks unless the Black Tank is due.
Putting away the hose eliminates the temptation for someone to `accidentally' turn on the water and have a leak in the RV for two weeks.
I changed my mind: leave the A/C on at 75 as others have suggested.
  • Leqve the AC on. Set it to about 75 and go. Water off is a good idea, but in NV there is no way I would turn the AC off
  • Yes, turn off the water and put the hose away.
I would even close the dump valves and store that hose too.
As for the A/C - in Nevada this time of year, the temp inside without the A/C could go to 120 - and food items would suffer. Cans of soda could explode, etc (don't ask me how I know this!) So I would either remove all food items or leave the A/C on at a low (say 75) setting.
  • If food is in frig? make sure you have a full tank of propane. just in case of a power outage.

75?? that's cold. 78 will be fine and save you money.
In the heat I imagine he's in, it'll be lucky if can even reach 88!
  • Also make sure you shut off the hot water heater. Make sure all the windows are closed and locked. Is the RV in a secure area? Do you have some to keep an eye on things?
  • Take your valuables (lap top, iPad, jewelry) with you. Just in case someone does break in.

We leave our's for 6-7 weeks on a campsite during the Christmas holidays. I just shut the water off, leave no food unless it's in the fridge/freezer (we leave the fridge running), dump the tanks, close the valves, leave the roof vents open under the MaxxAir covers, shut off the hw heater and in our case I winterize with rv antifreeze.

I check the battery before leaving and top it off as needed since I leave the power on. I pull the slides in. I also leave a key with my camp neighbor.
