Long Island, NY RV Parking

Trying to find a place in Nassau County to park a trailer between 35-38ft. Google searches haven't turned up much yet. Curious if anyone here has a line on something.

The ability to park at my house was probably the biggest deciding factor in which trailer to buy. Could not go too long and still reasonably fit it next to my garage. Plus I did not want to be overly annoying to my neighbors with it. It tucks away pretty nicely w/o being obnoxious. I am the type that really likes having it where I can see it and access it easily whenever I want. Especially after the winter we just had. And apparently are still having!

@gcloss thanks....we just purchased a Eagle 314TSBH....pick her up this saturday but I am still without a parking spot. CW of Kingston said they know a few places and are supposed to get me some numbers. I like the idea of storing off the Island. I was looking at places out in NJ, thinking that may be convenient too.

Going to spend a night in it near Kingston then we are off to the Keys....a little ambitious but I figure there should be plenty of RV assistance in FL should I need some.

We are planning to do the Walmart Super Center for food. This will be my first personal TT but I have gone with friends in the past. Trying to keep the supplies to a minimum.

Gardiner seems a bit far for me, but perhaps it will turn out to be the closest place that is reasonable.

Good luck with your new Eagle and have a safe trip to the Keys. Put some posts up about your trip along the way. Safe travels.

Yes I am looking for a place other than my yard to park the trailer. It would probably fit but I would prefer not to look at it everytime I walk out the front door.

So for the folks who keep the trailer off the island what do you do to stock and clean the trailer. Do you just make picking it up and a trip to the store part of the routine?

Where do you store it for $48 a month?

Battlerow CG sounds good for winter, that is a great piece of information.

I don't want to store it to far north as going south would then mean navigating NYC bridges again.

I store my TT at Yogi Bear in Gardiner. The monthly cost of $48 is when we use it every weekend and only pay storage for Mon. to Thurs. Friday to Sunday is covered under our nightly fee.

I don't limit my camping to just one campground. We will take the TT out of the CG and do week long trips. Last year we took the TT from Gardiner NY to Ocean City MD. Didn't have to go through NYC. When we were done with that trip we dropped it off back in Gardiner.

This year we have a two week trip planned to CMA Fest in Nashville. We will be leaving from Gardiner to Nashville and back to Gardiner again.

As far as cleaning goes, when we take it out of the CG I try to look for a self-serve truck wash to clean the outside. Most campgrounds don't like you washing RVs, but I've broken the rules at times by washing the TT very late at night in the dark when everyone is in bed.

When it comes to stocking the trailer we always bring our clothes each trip. We keep a good variety of jackets, sweatshirts, extra shoes, boots and rain gear in the TT. Bedding and towels are always kept in the TT. My wife will always bring home dirty wet towels and bedding clean them and bring them back on the next trip.

We always bring some food with us or simply stop at a nearby supermarket or Walmart Super Center.

We always keep a notepad on the counter and keep a running list of supplies we need. We pick them up between trips and keep them in the back of my truck for the next trip.

This is our 6th RV in 34 years, so we've kind of got this camping thing pretty well figured out.

When we were shopping for our RV I looked for storage in Nassau for a trailer or RV. Lots of luck - what I could find were compartment storage centers that would rent a spoy to park the RV or trailer - at a cost of almost what an apartment costs to rent. And few were secure.

We decided to go small and park on the driveway.

Long Island is not an RV/TT friendly place.

If I still lived on LI (born and raised in Melville), this would be my plan.

Highways and bridges through NYC would be a major PITA with a trailer that big.

I camp almost every weekend in July and August. It was costing me $125 per weekend just for tolls and fuel, never mind the extra time and aggravation.

I pay $3 per day to store my trailer, so the worst case is $90 per month or when camping every weekend the storage is $48 per month. No brainer for storage off Long Island.

Good luck ..... I live in Nassau County and there are no real good storage places other than driveways. If you are looking for winter storage the Nassau County Department of Parks will let you store your RV at the Battle Row Campground during the winter when the CG is closed. This is for Nassau residents only and there is a nominal fee.

I've kept my TT at my In-Laws in the past, but DW doesn't like it, so I now keep my TT at a CG in Gardiner NY. I actually find it easier to keep it off Long Island rather than constantly towing it through the city for trips.

Are you looking for a storage lot? Most people just store campers in their side yards but you may not have room for a 38'. What town do you live in?

By park do you mean store, camp or something else?
