Looking for good location in central Florida

The wife & I are planning to become snowbirds, & are thinking about campgrounds in the central Florida area. However I have several medical conditions that are under care of my local Veterans Hospital. I am looking for input from veterans who have had care at the Orlando VA Hospital, & how was your experience?

If this thread is posted in the wrong location, my apologies to the moderator.

There are 2 campgrounds in winter garden a state park just south of clermont on us 27, and of course fort wilderness at disney, those are just a few choices that come to mind and the va hospital has been in the news , frequently with stories with delays and cost overruns, good luck .

I stayed at Williston Crossings last winter. A really nice place with lots of activities. They are about 15-18 miles from I-75 and Gainesville.

We live in Tampa and use James A Haley facilities. We like Quail Run RV Resort in Wesley Chapel which is easy drive to the VA hospital in Tampa.
Another alternative is a new clinic at The Villages south of Ocala if you don't need the full hospital. If you do need the hospital, you can drive to Gainesville which is an hour north. Grand Oaks Resort in Lady Lake or Ocala Sun RV Resort are in the area. Also near there is Williston Crossings RV Resort in Williston FL. an hour from The Villages Clinic and half an hour to the hospital in Gainesville. One caution: Unless it's an emergency and you go to an ER, you will need to register in the Florida VA system before you are able to receive treatment there. The VA is regionalized and their computers are not linked. To register you will need to go to the large VA facility in Gainesville or Tampa.

I haven't been to any VA clinics but there's another, fairly new one, in central FL on the east coast. http://www.viera.com/vieramedicalparks/vaclinic.aspx

VA Hospital, Orlando, was scheduled to be open in October, 2012.

It MAY start taking patients in certain specialties by next August.

Good Luck.
