lots of caulking around vents, etc on roof?

I noticed a lot of caulking on the roof for my newly purchased 2004 Dolphhin.Is that added at the factory? Is caulking normal?

Thanks!

PS. How do you add a photo to the posts here? I have some photos of it.
  • If you're talking about around vents, AC, antenna, etc, it's normal to use lots of lap sealant. It tends to spread out a little as it settles.

    Go to Forum Technical Support, read the tutorial, RV.Net Tutorials and Picture related FAQ's, practice a bit. worked for me :)

    Ok, I hope this works, but tell me, does this roof look funky? The different coloring pattern around the vents and buildup? Is that normal? It off the recent 2005 Dolphin I purchased.

    If you copy and paste the links into your browser it pulls up the photos. I read the tech section and this was the way it was recommended the post photos here.
  • Doesn't look factory done to me. Looks like someone did not later on. Perhaps as a preventative measure. It does need to be redone occasionaly. For a 10 yr old RV, I would say it looks pretty normal. I'd get some vent covers though...lol

  • When building TT's they have a machine called a calk glopper. When you turn it on, it goes GLOP GLOP GLOP...
  • what are TT's?

    Anyone else have a comment on the photos? Something about this roof just looks off to me, but it could be normal, I'm not sure.
  • I hope that is a solar panel in the middle and not the top of hole where the AC unit should be. It seems odd not to see an AC unit on the roof.

    This unit has the Coleman Mach basement AC / Heat pump. No roof top AC.
  • TT == Travel Trailer.

    What I see is lap sealant. Normally used all the time when working with a rubber roof. It is something you need to check on regularly and once you see it drying out and cracking you will need to reseal. Absolutely normal to avoid water penetration.
  • I'd be happy that at least the PO properly resealed the roof. It does look a little sloppy though for my tastes. It looks like you also have a broken sewer vent. You need to fix that.
