Overnight Options in Sedona

Hello,
my friend and I are new to RVing and one of my many questions is, do we always have to park at a campground/trailer park?

On the way from Grand Canyon to Sedona, I was wondering if there are places that we can just pull over and spend the night. No campground fees, no hook-ups, just a place to chill for the night. We would be returning the RV early the next day and flying out. Thank you!

at my Home (Ohio).. you can only park an RV in your own driveway for 48 hours..

so Yes, they can ticket someone at a Walmart.

On the road from Munds Park to Mormon Lake I've seen numerous RV'ers dry camping.

About 6 miles off I-17 on Lake Mary road is a dry camp area. There are also forest service campgrounds at Lake Mary, no hookups, $20/nt.

Depends on the direction you approach Flagstaff from. If you are heading north on I-17 then there is Munds Park RV resort about 20 miles south of Flagstaff. Lot of permanents for snowbird types, but we overnited there a few years back and the sites were fine FHU and cable as I recall. Easy off and on 17.

The cops can say something if there is an ordinance against overnight parking. Just like they have ordinances that say how big your house can be, how big your garage can be, etc. They can also have ordinances regarding parking RV's and overnighting.

Staff member at the Walmart on the east side of town said he has seen RVs there in the morning when he comes in. So, essentially, overnight at your own risk of being kicked out.

Overnighting in your RV is not allowed in Sedona. There is one RV park in Sedona, and a couple Forest Service campgrounds in Oak Creek Canyon. You can stay overnight a few miles west of Sedona, driving out Hwy 89A, turn north or south at FR 525/89B. Dirt road.

There is Verde Valley Fairgrounds RV park in nearby Cottonwood that is reasonably priced. Also Dead Horse Ranch State Park is nice. Boondocking also on dirt off Hwy 260 at Thousand Trails Rd. (before entering the TT campground).

A very easy place to stay overnight is in the lower parking lot of Cliff Castle Casino just off I-17.

The Sedona area is very regulated as to where you can park the RV. Wherever you may find that looks like a good place to park, make sure you check out that a Red Rock Pass is not required. You WILL pay a fine.
