Screen door latch

How many times have you replaced your screen door latch, I have now put #4 on in three years because of a 5 cent spring breaking and cannot find a replacement spring so have to dish out between $10 and $15 for a new latch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The first one on our 03 Keystone Outback just broke this spring. We camp 80-100 nights a year so it is used a lot. So far tape is holding it so the latch works.

As far as the OP:
First 2 RV trailers we no probs with the screen door.
The new fiver is a different story ๐Ÿ™‚ screen door latch = pain in the ass.

Made numerous adjustments...it continues to be a pain in the ass.
So I guess it was designed to be a pain in the ass

Sooo...there ya have it.

The video indicated he got the magnets from Lee Valley Tools

You can buy rare earth magnets in dollar stores now. But Lee Valley may well have the best variety and no question their quality is high. You can order online.

Our screen door latch just barely catches the hold bracket. If I adjust it so more of the latch catches. Than you have trouble opening the door. From outside or inside.
Thinking of using a slide bolt type door latch

Magnets on Screen Door

I like this wonder where he found the magnets and how they are attached does the screen door still seal up so not to let skeeters flys and moths in.

His original post is on here somewhere that tells where to get the magnets at. I hope I can find it.
The trim where the door closes is slightly different that his, so you have to be a little creative on how to mount the magnets.

I can't seem to find the post your referring to if you find it could you pm me
Thanking you in advance

I can't find his original post either, but as far as installing the magnets the video is the only pictures or descripiton.

I did buy the magnets from a link he posted, so I'll try to find my reciept and report back.

When my spring failed, I used a medium sized rubber band looped around the handle with the other end secured by one of the handle mechanism screws. Loop the rubber band around the handle, unscrew one of the upper screws, work the rubber band so it goes around the screw hole and re-insert the screw. The rubber band seems to last about 2 years or so.

I've replace it once, but not due to the spring, it was because I didn't latch the screen door to the main door before closing the main door, snapped the handle off.
