Tempered Glass or Plexiglass

Hi, just wondering if everyone was putting in tempered glass or going with the cheaper plexiglass. I have to put in a new window on my RV which has a couple of corners that are curved which the glass co. said they would have to send away to get it cut, not to mention more money. Thanks for any info on this topic.
  • RV Glass Repair Services, link below, will make a window for you. They may already have a template in their database for the glass you need. If not you can provide the measurements and the radius of the corners. They cut the glass then pop it in a oven to temper it. Had them make a couple for me.

I've heard Glass Doctor will do the same, they quite a few locations.
  • I prefer using a polycarbonate like Lexan over the acrylics like Plexiglass for window applications. Polycarbonates are stronger and much less brittle, with better scratch resistance.
  • You, nor anyone, "cuts" tempered glass. The glass is made to size THEN tempered. The glass company you are talking to will most likely order it from a glass manufacturer.

  • Downside to plexiglass is that it is a soft plastic that scratches very easily. I believe there are harder plastics that would be more resistant to scratching.
