The OP is not reporting that he lost electrical power so much as I can tell.
Only that the vehicle stalled when he stopped, and it took a while to restart.
This sounds like a fuel starvation problem, or a stuck open EGR.
The A/C issue is most likely a separate issue, older Fords all have the vacuum loss airflow goes to defrost outlets thing.
