Using a CB radio

Growing up, my grandparents always had a CB radio in the truck. I have one from my old truck, but I have not hooked it up in my new truck, 13 F150. I am curious if anyone still uses them? Also, if you do, where do you have it mounted. I am thinking about installing mine for when we are traveling since it will mostly be the 3 of us as a family and not with a group of other campers.

I have one in the truck and the offroad Jeep. The CB only sees occasional use. The range of a CB has significant more range in the mountains than FRS. I do keep it off while on the highway. After leaving the military I no longer need to listen to foul mouthed people.

I haven't had a CB since the "Smoky and the Bandit" days (1977). And I don't miss it.

I have one under my front seat set for channel 19 just to listen to the truckers directly in front of me or directly behind me... Squelch is turned up all the way. Truckers are still the masters for what is going on around them

In my 6-7 road years pulling my RV I have yet to hear another RV'er on the CB.

I guess the popularity of the CELL PHONE has done away with the CB Radios for RV'ers...

We have one very handy at check in time, backing in to the sites, and keeping track of the kids, they have cheap cobra walkies talkies that have some of the same channels as the CB

I actually have 2 myself, don't need another. I know when I took mine out of my old truck there was allot of foul language then. I will most likely not mess with putting it back in.

In my truck (see sig) the CB is mounted to the left of the steering column, and the all band/all mode Yaesu amateur radio is mounted to the right of the steering column, covering the ashtray.
I am currently using magnetic mount antennas on the top of the cab.
There has been an on-going move to have RVers use CB Channel 13, but it hasn't gained much acceptance. Most mobiles use Channel 19 along with the truckers. the problem there is that the truckers can sometimes (often) be guilty of, shall we say, "colorful" language. On second thought, let's just tell it like it is: Crude and profane, often times simply obscene.

It's probably been more than 10 years that I finally got rid of mine. It was nothing but foul, useless noise along I95. I doubt you want your kids to hear much of what is said on it.

I doubt much has changed...
