Make sure you go down and meet the Postmaster and their customer service rep, as you will become very good friends over the phone, when things go wrong, and they will. Besides being expensive and only allowing ONE (1) address to forward to over the 6 months, your mail will end up as "no forwarding address", recipient NOT at the new address, and what ever else they can dream up to screw it up. Your PO does not do the forwarding, they send it to a central facility who does the actual paper work and forwarding........
If you are going to be at only one address, then simply have it sent to the local PO as general delivery, which the local PO will hold for 30 days. If you are going to travel, then use one of the mail forwarding services like the Escapees, FMCA, Passport America, etc. They hold the mail until you call for it and then forward to the PO of your choice. Some will even open the mail if you ask them and scan it to your computer. The price will be about ½ what the PO will charge for their Premium service.......Been there done that and NEVER again, even if we were to stay put for the winter.
