Ours was on our first trip. Just before leaving I installed a King Satellite dome and 2 of those vent topper thingies. First gas station (Kingman, AZ) I pulled under a forecourt I'd been under before. I stopped quite suddenly when I heard some odd noises. Quickly backed up a few feet and then went topside. I'd removed the satellite dome and damaged a vent. Kicked myself all the way to the Camping World in Williams to buy a new vent cover. Satellite dish was dented but the dent popped out and still worked fine.

LOL - last spring I went out to start de-winterization and found that I had left several cans of Ginger Ale in the refrigerator... It froze and exploded with enough force to blow two of the shelves out of the fridge... lesson learned and not repeated.

We drove up a narrow winding dirt road (actually just a brushy two-track) to a GREAT boondocking site -- a grove of large shady pines on a lakefront. No one else in sight, beautiful weather. One of those picture postcard type of campsites. Spent a glorious four days fishing, paddling, hiking, enjoying the wildlife and solitude.

When we packed up to leave, I realized I had misjudged the size of the site and the space needed to turn around. An hour of jockeying my rig, including unhooking the TT and repositioning the truck did not yield results. I ended up backing the TT on the road we came in. About a half mile of S curves with the tree limbs rubbing the side of the rig along the way and DW guiding me while walking backwards.

Not to be outdone -- about a month later at another boondocking site I had the same problem. Went in easy, could not turn around to exit. Backed out again (though this time it was a short straight backup).

First camping trip in our first motorhome. Our daughter was with us and said she could hear a sound like dripping water. I said it was just the water heater relief valve dripping outside, like I knew what I was talking about. We awoke to a lake in the living room from a leaking water filter under the kitchen sink. Ever since, we turn off the water at night and when we're away.

I was out in the middle of the desert with my popup. While folding up to leave I had already removed the bed support bars when my brother said he needed to remove the block under the tongue jack. Without thinking about it I pushed down hard on the rear bed to take the weight off the tongue. There was a pop as the slide rollers gave away and the bed fell to the ground. We did get it slid back onto the rails to get home and I had to buy some new rollers from an RV salvage place to fix the bed.

I helped my husband get ready to go on his first trip in the MOHO. He was plugged into electric. He started it up, still plugged in, and drove away. I called him on the cell phone and said, "Hey,I don't think the electric cord is that long." He said "Oh $#!t". and hung up on me );.

I have nothing too bad, but about two years ago I got home from a half-day at work, looking forward to camping for the weekend. Got home, backed the truck up and hitched up. Did the walk around checking everything and all is good. So off we go.

Stop to get gas at a station a few miles from the house and as I am walking around checking connections, I realized I had hitched the TT right my regular old trailer ball! This was with my old TT, which due to weight I did not have to use my WD bars, so I completely missed it.

If I had pulled out of the station, I was about to go over a very large RR crossing and would have lost it for sure. I drove about a half-mile away my in-laws and dropped the TT there while I went to get the correct hitch.

Our maiden voyage with our new Travel Trailer was a disaster. We had been using a pop-up camper for years prior so I wasn't used to looking for low hanging branches in campgrounds. First time out in the new Travel Trailer a branch took off the rubber roof, dented the roof, took off the fridge vent, and made my awning look like a smiley face. Several thousand dollars worth of damage. Lesson learned until I got my new 5th wheel. Then I caught a retaining wall with the rear end pulling out of my RV parking spot next to the house and took off the rear cap of my 5ver.

When I had a 40' Class A that I was living in for about a year, I decided to take the rig with my fullsize 1500 Ram on a tow dolly to a bowling tournament in Biloxi. The trip was only 5 hours. 10 minutes after hitting the interstate, I pull over to retighten the tow dolly straps. While pulling over, I hear a thud. I turn on the rear view camera and notice the truck is a bit closer to the RV than normal. I get out of the RV and notice that the straps had come completely loose and the truck had rolled forward. I forgot to secure the truck to the tow dolly with a chain. The truck is now stuck with the tow dolly wheels between the front and back wheels of the truck. Door and side panel damage to the tuck. No damage to the RV. 4 hours later, I was able to get the truck unstuck (with the help of a tow truck driver). This is all happening at around 9 pm and in a very bad part of town.

After finally getting unstuck and dropping the truck back off at the RV park, I return to the road. After 4 hours of driving, the RV breaks down. One new fuel pump later and some other things, I decide to cut my losses and head back home. I never made it to the bowling tournament.

On the way home, the rig breaks down again. The roadside service technician could never figure out what was wrong. I would drive for 30 minutes and then have to sit for an hour to let the engine cool back down. It wasn't overheating, but would lose power after the engine would get to normal temperature. I could only drive about 25 miles an hour for about 30 minutes before having to stop and rest for about an hour. It took 9 hours to travel 120 miles.

After getting home, I have the rig serviced. I forgot what was wrong but it only cost $300 to repair. The "repairs" from the roadside service personnel cost me over $1,000. I am just glad the breakdown occurred when it was just me and not on a trip with my son.

Lessons learned: Secure the vehicle to the tow dolly with the proper size straps AND with a chain. Make sure your RV is serviced and ready for travel prior to its maiden voyage. Have good roadside insurance.

In 1980, my father and I went out for the weekend in our new 1980 Midas Mini class C motorhome. On the drive home, we stopped at a rest stop for lunch, but dad forgot to put the folding steps back in. He backed up into a pole and bent the steps. They could not be folded back in, so we had to drive another two hours with them sticking out.

Everything went well until literally a block from our house a guy in a parked Toyota Celica opened his door as we were driving by. The steps caught his door and wrapped it forward until it was smashed against his front fender. The guy was jumping up and down as we drove away, not realizing we had to drive back around the block.

My father parked behind the Toyota waiting for a city police officer to arrive. My father was an L.A. Marshal, and pointed out to the officer the Toyota was parked in a red zone (curb was painted red all the way to the intersection). The guy in the Toyota was given a ticket and had to pay for our new steps, the damage to our door and some new decals.

The new steps were always put away promptly after that!
