Winter roads

Aloha
My husband and I will be traveling from Reno NV. to Quartzsite AZ. the end of December. We will be driving a 35ft. Class A pulling a trailer with a car.
We would like to know the best/safest roads to take in that direction.

  • 95 through Vegas, Parker then I-10 East to Quartzite is by far the safest weather wise. 95 south thru Blythe is 20 miles further but a bit better road. South of Reno can see snow around Tonopah which is at 6,000' elevation.

If there is 0% chance of snow and roads are all clear then 395 south towards I-10 east would save time. It's the shortest route with more interstate and very good roads all the way as well as scenic. I take this route any time weather is clear but avoid is theres any chance for snow or if it has snowed in the few days prior mainly around Mammoth Lakes.

We did this last December but stayed on the 95 to Parker to visit friends...then back on 95 again to Quartzite. Our destination was Brenda, AZ just East of Q off the 10.

We broke up the trip on the way down, besides Parker, with an overnight in Hawthorne at Whisky Flats CG (about 3 hours from Reno) where we had freezing temps overnight and then it was on to Vegas for a week at the Oasis RV Resort.

    As said...all good roads.

    Safe travels.
  • I'd stay on the Interstates with the option to pull off at the sign of any bad weather but you should be fine
  • I80 TO 50 TO 95.

Stay on 95 until you hit I10 in Arizona. East on I10 to Quartzite.

The only weather you MAY run into is wind (almost a given in the NV desert) and snow happens in Tonopah. Other than that, good and easy highway the whole way.

    About a 12 hour drive.
