Hi every one.

I just completed a 567 mile round trip and the mileage was around 7.4 mpg.

Empty around town or highway, im seeing 11 mpg.

I'm starting to wonder if new plugs and wires are in order... I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm in drastic need of a tune up.

Does anyone wish to share there chevy 2500 mileage numbers?

Agreed.
My 02 6.0L got 8-8.5 towing a heavy toy hauler, and 11.5-12 empty city driving.
Empty Highway I could squeak 16 out of it at 60mph.
I think there was only one time I did an empty trip with it.

Sounds about right for me i get 8 towing my toyhauler its a 21 ftr but loaded its about 7500 pounds plus the bed is loaded too.Mine is an ex cab short box 4x4.

With lance 8.5 camper towing boat i can get 10 if i keep speeds under 58 mph after 60 it starts to drop fast at 65 its 8 mpg.

I agree.

Any over 100k I would change out the O2 sensors for sure.
That are a major player in fuel economy.

Spark plugs should be done every 100k miles on these. Please use double platinum to lasts the next 100k miles. Besides that, flushing all the fluids would be good unless you know when they were last done.

Thanks everyone! I knew full well this truck would pass anything out there, except a gas station! ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL, just needed a bit of a verification, thats all. Sounds like 7.4 is reasonable. I'm not looking for trouble, but if I were significantly deviant from the crowd, I might start looking into what might be wrong.

I've scheduled a tune up, with new plugs and wires.

Need - hopefully your 6 year newer rig will fair better, we gotta hope that chevy improved the 6.0 somehow, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

CT,

I will report back what we get next week on our trip to Northern Michigan! Had about 7.5 last Fri, but about 60% was on a country rd, and had stops and slower speed limit going through a few small towns.

7.4mpg towing sounds right at about 70-75mph for my 6.0L. We usually take <600 mile round trips within Michigan, but this year two 2200 mile trips. We averaged a little over 8mpg. Some over 9mpg, some low 7s depending on hills and wind. 11mpg around town sounds a bit low, but maybe for lots of city/stop/go/short trips. We average 13mpg winter adn 14mpg summer of mixed city/highway.

I traded off my 2008 Chevy 2500 Crew Cab LTZ about three years ago now. With a slide in truck camper I saw 8mpg and highway running I never broke higher than 12.5mpg, Alaska highways are 55-65mph max.

Sounds like you have the 4 speed tranny. I can get 8 towing 13k 5er. Was showing my nephew yesterday that for the last 700 plus miles I've got 14.4 empty but not a lot of in town driving.

My classic 07 1500HD (2wd,6.0,3.73) gets 13-14 hwy empty and 8-10 depending on the load. It was rough coming from my previous truck (6.5 turbo diesel,5 spd, reg cab) but I needed the seating.
I have an old duramax truck I'm rebuilding, anxious to try towing with it.
