2019 Heartland NorthTrail Dual AC Units v Upgrade to 15k

We just purchased our 2019 Heartland North Trail Caliber 27RBDS TT. From past experience with varying sizes of TTs and High Heat & Humidity in the upper Midwest, I asked about our options at the time of purchasing the TT for Upgrading our Cooling Abilities. It comes with the std 13,500. But, I would, at a minimum like to upgrade that to a 15,000 unit. Ideally, thinking of those really hot 112 heat index with super high humidity days in direct sunlight ... and having iced up many times a new 13,500 unit on a 27ft TT ... I'd like to install a 2nd 13,500 unit.

Adding 2nd Unit: I was told there is no pre-wiring and that would have to be installed. Also, it requires 50a and there are extra installations to do this. Total cost for only those two things (not including the actual 2nd AC unit) is $2,500.

Upgrading to 15k from 13,5: $1400 if I keep the 13,5 AC Unit. $900 if they keep it.

My initial thought is $900 is a lot less expensive and will keep me cool 95% of the time without the use of fans to assist.

But, what I don't know is if I'm getting ripped off for the $900 amount.

Any help is appreciated. I need to make the decision by 3pm tomorrow, Saturday 6/15/2019.

Cummins12V98 ... this is not an unusual thing.

Used RV I would agree, new no way! Why the HE!! Have to heavily modify something new? At a minimum negotiate the items wanted prior to the agreed sale price.
  • I would do nothing and see how your new RV handles the heat. It may be better insulated than your old one, and you may find the A/C unit on it to be satisfactory. You can always change out the existing unit to the 15,000 btu model or even add another A/C unit. Nothing says it has to be done now!
  • I’m confused. You buy a new RV and it doesn’t have the electrical or cooling system you want???
  • $900.00 is a lot. $1400 is even more. Shop for a new unit online and you can probably find one in the $600.00 range. Very easy to install if you are replacing a unit. Hardest part will be getting them on and off the roof. I don't think it will make a very big difference. I would try it the way it is, you might be surprised. If you really want to do this look for another dealer with more reasonable prices.
