A T& T and Verizon

We travel extensively, no need to have ATT as Verizon has the widest coverage for both phone and data

I have only not had service 3 times in the last 3 years, all three times it was in or near a national park, Bad Lands, Big Bend and Yosemite.

We had AT&T but switched to Verizon and got better coverage. But there were still quite a few places we did not have service. We would never need or even consider a burner phone.

Maybe take a look at "PagePlus". Coverage is rather good & best of all NO CONTRACT.

I've been using them for 4 years now, without a single issue. I fired Verizon after 18 years.

The nice thing is, if they don't fit your needs you're not bound to a stupid contract & can stop service anytime.

PS: I "flashed" my Verizon phone to PagePlus for a $35 fee

We have T mobile and are researching a new carrier due to spotty or non existant coverage. Looks like Verizon is the clear winner despite clever wordage on T Mobile web site coverage is a joke for those of us who like to get away

If you travel mostly east of the MS River, both ATT and VZ will be just fine.
If you travel extensively in the western states, VZ is the way to go.

We've had Verizon & ATT phone service for a number of years now. There have been cases where one service isn't available and the other is. We use ATT as our main phone for all business and long conversations since we have about 6K of rollover minutes. Verizon is our backup with limited minutes.

We have both services for a number of reason that aren't relevant to your question. If we had to pick one service, it would be ATT. We travel extensively in the US from coast to coast and everywhere in between.

We do use the phones as phones, not cameras, GPS, texting, etc.

We had a Verizon Hotspot. After traveling 8,000 miles in 8 months around the country, there was only one place where we had no coverage. It was Carlsbad, NM.

Verizon has the best coverage-then there is everybody else.

Our phones and hot spot are Verizon, but one of our Ipads is AT&T We can use it as a hot spot if for some reason we cannot get Verizon, but we can get AT&T This has happened only twice in two years, but it was handy at the time.

Don't be fooled by the TV commercials. There is "coverage" and there is "good coverage". If you have voice service, that is "coverage", because their primary function, according to the FCC, is voice communications. It doesn't mean that data communications are reliable or even available.

I'm not really concerned about Data coverage as much as I am voice coverage...I want to have phone service if, and when, I need it.
