After all these years.... UPDATE

After speaking with our insurance agent, we found the company will cover the replacement cost of our stolen generator! Of course, minus our deductible but we are very pleased with the way we were treated by them.
Though it doesn't pay it all, at least we aren't out the entire cost.

I thank you all so much for your responses. You always help me feel better.

Happy Trails, Okie
  • Glad to hear they're stepping up. Now if they could only restore the feeling of safety at the lake... Sorry you've had to deal with it all.
  • gjwarneke, we have our insurance through AARP but the carrier/agent is Hartford. This is the first claim we have ever filed and we were surprised it went so easily.

mlts22, we were unsure which one was taken because of the difficulty finding the serial number. But the dealer we purchased the generator from showed DH where to find it, plus he had the numbers on file at the dealership. At times like this, it pays to shop locally with a local dealer instead of a big box store! The dealer was terrific through this process as well. You may contact your seller and see if he can help you locate your numbers.
  • I need to make sure my generator's serial is stashed somewhere safe myself, but I can't find it on the machine.

I had a relative who had her A/C destroyed just for the copper windings for the compressor. Cost was well north of $7000.
  • First...sorry to hear that your gen was stolen...2nd glad to know you will get some money to put towards another one. 3rd....May I ask you your insurance carrier is?
I hope we never end up in this position, but I guess we better check to see if we are at all covered for an event like yours.
    Thanks,
    Jo
  • That's good to hear. I had a big claim with my insurance company a few months ago. They were great to work with.

We have a neighbor last year who took a 3 week camping trip. When he came home, his air conditioner had been stolen! $4500 to get it replaced.
