After all these years....

At the lake last weekend, one of our Yamaha generators was stolen!
In the middle of the night, a thief snuck into our campsite, disconnected our 2000I from the other 2000 and slunk off like the skunk that he/she was.
All around the lake, campers had generators sitting out, 90% of them not locked or chained. Everyone had done that for years, even when no one was in camp, out on the lake fishing or hiking or whatever, no one locked anything up. Never even had an ice cube stolen.
The gens were connected together and hooked up to the 5er! So disconnecting took him/her a while to do in the dark.
At 4:30 a.m., DH took our 2 dogs out, did a walk around and all was well. At 6:30 when DH got up and went outside, it was gone....
Police report filed, park ranger report was filed and insurance claim has been filed.
New generator has been shopped for.....
We saved a good while to purchase the generators, yet someone felt they had more right to it than our hard work warranted.
The park ranger said it had been so long since a theft had been reported that they couldn't even remember how long it was. And he was sorry to think that kind of behavior was starting up.....

Sigh..........

Here's a thought- there's a 24 day old ad on Wyoming Craigslist for a 2000i...link to ad.
This time of year and at $800.00/little use, one would think it would already have been sold.

Maybe someone's "restocking"?

If it can happen in Wyoming it can happen anywhere. Don't even think about not locking up here in California. It's sad but indicative of our society today. Maybe someone trying to get a meth fix.

Maybe it wasn't a camper. Possibly some one had visitors and one of them sort of thought he would like to have one of those. Came back in the middle of the night and requisitioned yours. Always sorry to hear this sort of thing happen. One of the assets of camping is the trust and honesty of most campers.

Campfire, we think it was a dishonest camper too. Sad, yes?
Old Biscuit, We were at Glendo Reservoir.
Cummins, I guess I can't. Not anymore.
DH is getting cable locks today. They WILL be secured from this day forward!

That's how it starts....no locks for years and then one day everything needs to be locked up. One of our favorite spots was like that, no need to worry about stuff. Now before going in for the night everything gets put away or locked up with a heavy logging chain and padlocks.

I guess you can no longer say "I never lock anything and have never had anything stolen"

I get ridiculed for locking everything.

Sorry for your loss!

So sorry to hear this. It's rare in just about any CG around the country. Most likely it was another camper, just not an honest one.
