Air Dream Inflateable mattress

Just bought the Air Dream mattress and am checking it out in the RV before we head out. Seems like a really good quality product.

I have a question about pumping it up. The instructions say inflate for 25 seconds and then there will be a motor pitch change indicating that it is full. Actually it takes over 30 seconds but my question is can this mattress be inflated beyond "the pitch change" to add more firmness or is there a risk of over inflating and causing it to burst/leak? Anybody have an opinion or experience?
Thanks

Yeah, you definitely get what you pay for ....we got ours in 2008, one of our first camping trips had us right by Elkhart, IN, and we saw this in an RV furniture store, a queen sized sofa bed folded out with the Air Dream on it. They had the Air Dream on sale for $199 so we bought one and it's turned out to a great investment.

Great response BurbMan. Exactly what I was hoping for. By the way, I had looked for months to find an inflatable under $100 but all that I came up with was bad reviews and junk products. So, I spent the $250+ and I'm already thrilled with it after inflating and deflating 3 times before heading out to a campground. Will be testing it out for real next week for 4 nights in the Calif foothills about 50 miles from Yosemite. Can't wait

Thanks so much for the good info

We bought an air dream for our pull out sofa in the TT....guests have said it is very comfortable and you don't get that bar in the middle of your back like you do on those paper-thin mattresses they put in fold out sofas.

Not really possible to over-inflate the mattress....the pump is more like a fan than a compressor, it is designed to get air in there quickly, not pump it up to high pressure like a tire. The reason the pitch of the pump sound changes is because the mattress is full and the fan can't push anymore air in. Like putting a towel in front of a hairdryer....

You could leave the pump on the mattress for an hour and the mattress isn't going to get any "fuller", there's no way to over pressurize it with that pump. That's why they say to take it off when the pitch changes, not because you risk any damage, but because it's done moving air inside and leaving it on any longer isn't going to do anything.

Not sure if you have tried it yet, but the mattress is plenty firm with that pump, guests have raved about how comfortable it is. Easy to fold up in the morning too, just pop that big hatch and it deflates almost immediately.

We have never had any leakage or leak-down either....the mattress is just as firm in the morning as it was the night before. We too have used those cheap-o air mattresses back in our tenting days, and they leak down not entirely due to the overnight temp change but because of seepage at the valve.

We have used the air mattress alot in our tent camping days. When they came out with the folding bed with air mattress pouch really solved the sleeping on the the ground thing always associated with Tent camping. We always carried two of the twin bed size with us and tied the two twin bed frame together with tie wraps.

The biggest thing we had to deal with was the changing of the outside air pressure during the night from being nice and firm when going to bed in the late evening and then waking up in the morning completely sunk down inside the Air Mattress...

You can see out two twin bed setup in the lower right hand side of this photo. Sure is nice sleeping off the tent floor...

I always had to re-pressure again around 4-5AM each morning...

I don't remember ever going over the specified air pressure...
