They don't. Just purchasers are dishonest and don't pay their taxes.
Utah has a property tax on your home and what you own. I pay plenty of this.
Utah has an income tax - they tax you when you earn money. I pay what I owe there.
Utah has a sales tax - they tax you when you spend that money. That's double-dipping and it's not right.

I dont like paying taxes any more than the next guy but fair is fair; why should internet purchases have a tax advantage over the locally owned Ace Hardware?
Plus our roads need repaired.
I don't get it either. Don't enjoy paying it but internet retailers do not need yet another advantage over brick and mortar stores.

My understanding is that sales tax is charged if the company has an actual "presence" in the state. Kansas has a distribution center so they charge sales tax in Kansas. Missouri has no Amazon presence so there is no sales tax, unless the 3rd party vendor has a presence in Missouri then there is a sales tax charged.

Here in Louisiana we had to start paying sales tax Jan 1st with Amazon. Our new liberal idiot governor could not stand to miss a few dollars he could spend.

But if you use the store credit card you don't need to belong to Prime, and still get 5 percent back on purchases. That saves you $99 per year. Easy returns are also done without Prime membership.
