My analogy is like so many folks who insist on having a TV just barely
rated for their trailer...

At the edge of the ratings...won't last as long and WILL wear out sooner
than later...

For us technologists...it is called margin.

Some call it 'safety margin'...

Another is they think buying something in the higher class will be
more expensive...I say yes up front, but it will last longer and not
have to buy another anytime soon...

Boils down to personal choice based on the individuals value system
metrics

I do NOT like to be at the edge/limits of the ratings of my stuff...

I helped my Dad put an electric tongue jack on his last trailer, the new jack had a slightly larger diameter than the hole in the tongue. We spent a few minutes with round file and that took care of it. It might slow things up a few minutes if you have enlarge the hole..

The cheapest jacks may have that 3000 lb rating but they are better suited for tongue weights of half their rating. If you had a heavy toy hauler or needed a tall lift, I would point to jacks in the $250 range. I had a Bulldog 4K lb tongue jack on my toy hauler with an extended foot (now that would be overkill on your trailer).

As long as your trailer is using the standard 3-bolt mount, you have it easy. Depending on the jack, you may need to buy an inline fuse holder, some heavy gauge wire and terminations while others will have all of this included. I will suggest that the jack you choose have a removable foot. If you need to add a wider or taller jack foot later, this will make the swap as simple as pulling a pin.

Your tongue weight will be 10-15% of the gross rating of your trailer. You can pick up a 3000-3500 lb electric jack for about $100 on line.

Any recommendations for replacement? Now I have to go do all that homework. What minimum information do I need? No - I do not know my tongue weight. Never had it weighed. Trailer weight is 6500. So I assume tongue weight to be 650 to ?

I am sooo hearing that bedlam!
