When you live in the country or in a small town you develop a degree of trust in your neighbors. My friends have the luxury of not locking their doors, leaving the keys in the car when shopping, announcing to the neighborhood that they will be out of town so keep an eye on things. Us city folk live in a different environment. Although my name can be found by searching my posts a simple glance at my current post will neither identify my name or my actual location. To post such would invite intruders in such places as Los Angeles. When we travel we have friends or neighbors collect our mail, pick up the newspaper or advertisements left on the driveway and even have them park their cars in our driveway. We pay for a burglar alarms motion sensor lighting and sometimes even private security.
Thus, when traveling it is best to give out as little information as possible. I bet some people don't even post about their trips until they get back, or make their post in the past tense so it seems like they have finished their trip.
Sad but true.
Happy Trails.
Actually my name is on my profile...ooops. But the reasoning still applies.
