Why do many of you not tell your name in your profile? Are you afraid of something? Some of you make some very bold statements from behind your mask of anonymity.

First of all its not required. I give a general location of my home, I don't have to post my address which if I give my name, why not my street address?. That way when Im on here and posting about the good time Im having on the ocean 2000 miles from home, all a potential thief has to do is look up my profile to see where to pick up the loot! Your question is fair and has a point in that there are those who like to flame someone and then move on hence, they hide behind a computer with an alias. The alias as I always understood was for security purposes. Why do you have the need to know internet folks by their real names anyway? I don't mean to sound snarky, but I gave an explanation for my alias, so why, in your opinion should I give you all my information?

I use my name, always have, ever since starting with the computer stuff. Never been robbed, assaulted, accused or any of the other so-called reasons for people to use something other than their real name. Which then leads one to observe how brave some are, hiding behind their assumed persona.

I also post when I am leaving, where I am going, how long I'll be on the road and where I am. Finding me is a snap. All my stuff here and on YouTube is identified.

I do not walk, drive, live, camp in fear. So far, no one has ever come up to me and given me a reason to act otherwise. I don't carry a gun. Used to have a bad cat, now have a ball obsessed dog. I pick up hitch-hikers...why don't I ever see the blonde in a bikini?...oh yes..and grab wifi from 'places'. So far, haven't been charged with theft of anything. Never been run out of a spot for boondocking, either.

And my street is named after a bird. A Plover.

I use a nickname because I don't want to make it easy for some whacko to stalk me electronically or maybe physically.
granted there are real pros out there who can probably do this anyway, but I don't want to just hand them the keys to my house.

OK I give up. Everything in my profile is an alter ego but I have to blame it on somebody. :R

Some people may want to protect their privacy. That's okay with me. So long as every one observes a reasonable amount of tact and civility and participates in a CONSTRUCTIVE way it works.

And the privacy issue IS a valid issue. That's evidenced every day in the media.

Now, back to the popcorn:)

Look at the tone of your question. You seem to want to know peoples names because you don't like the bold statements they make behind their mask of anonymity. If you don't like what somebody said, why does it matter who they really are unless you have some type of nefarious intent for them? I don't use my real name specifically because any debates I have on here I want them to stay on here and not be stalked by somebody that may have been offended by something I said.

Sounds like you are one of those people that are trying to steal my identity. Your post is exactly how you people get innocent unsuspecting people to give strangers personal info. You start with something simple...then get into it deeper and deeper. Then you rob us blind. We're on to you.

It is people like you that prompted me to start this thread. If I was trying to steal from you, I would hide behind the keyboard like you do. I am real, not hiding from anyone and easy to find.

Your comment is bordering on being slanderous. Making such comments about someone that you do not know is a good indicator of your level of intelligence.

Do you think the Rv missing from your driveway or yard is a hint you're out camping.

BTW why do we park in driveways and drive on parkways???? Only in America. lol

nope, since my rv is NOT stored at my home and is stored at a location where other than me, there is only ONE person who knows who owns each RV and their address/contact info.

Yes, my close neighbors know when we are gone, and we treat them well for keeping an eye on things while we are gone and do the same or them when they are gone.

well, since there are times I mention upcoming trips etc. I'd rather NOT broadcast to the world (well not quite, but a big audience) that we will be gone and the house empty.

I'm still amazed at how many folks I know send out a email to a huge list and post on facebook upcoming trips and dates they will be gone, or leave a message on the home answering machine saying they are on vacation and leave a message. One good hacker and you could come home to a very empty house!
