Answering questions without knowing details?

Please help me understand...Maybe just me.

I do understand people posting questions that are vehicle specific. Posters leave out what model, brand or size out of their question.

But what I don't understand is how people can give answers without knowing more specifics.

Examples...
What oil should I run in my diesel?
I have duel axle trailer, what is the proper torque for lug nuts?
My weather stripping is bad, what type should I buy.
My awning is bad, how do I fix it?

How can anybody give a correct answer without knowing more details?
2003 Majestic 23P... Northwest travel machine
2013 Arctic Fox 25W... Wife "doll house" for longer snowbird trips
2001 "The Mighty Dodge"... tow vehicle for "doll house"

However, they loose that tooth shortly after breaking out of the shell.

Yes, chickens did use toothpicks during their evolutionary period when they had teeth. (LOL)

I think this was in the Triassic era.

BTW: Interesting post about different breed of chicken.

If it takes a chicken and a half, a day and a half to lay an egg and a half. How long does it take a grasshopper with a wooden leg to kick all the seeds out of a dill pickle?
Chicken is a 3 year old Rhode Island Red.
Dill pickle is a big old kosher dill weighing 5.3 OZ.

Answer: The grasshopper will never kick all the seeds out of the dill pickle because the chicken ate him before he had a chance to finsih and then the chicken used the wooden leg as a tooth pick!

But, if the chicken were, perhps a Leghorn from Kentucky, he might have roasted that grasshopper on a BBQ pit and dowsed him with Sweet Baby Rays, and used that wood leg for a spit.

After all ... you forgot one important part of the equasion ... you really gotta know your chickens first: Click here.

A lot of posters to your question did so with humorous and sarcastic responses and that's normal and to be expected.

Some gave thoughtful replies assuming your question was deliberate and that you actually wanted an answer.

But what it boils down to is this: Many of the questions one sees here and the ones you posed are what might be called Softball or Sophomore questions. Many here have the experience to answer these types of questions because they simply do not require any further information. They have years of experience and deep knowledge of systems, mechanics and other things.

If like me you have owned RV's, Sailboats and all kinds of other fun stuff, have been working on and restoring your own cars since you were 15, built small and large buildings etc etc then there are just some things that experience covers.

And by the way just for the record; there is absolutely no relation between a posters time spent on this site ( a so called Old Timer) and their abilities or knowledge and sadly they are often the ones who jump in with incorrect or misleading information.

On the other hand there are a few who do know their stuff for sure and share it gladly.

This... but even more is when someone actually says 'like said by the others before, check the fuse'.

Now admittedly, sometimes it's good to see a couple people agree on an answer, as it will give you some confidence that it is correct. Kinda like 'ask the audience' on whatever that game show was. Does anyone know that gameshow? Howzat for an undetailed question.

I actually think some folks know the question better than the OP, so they automatically know the details, and the answers...

And for those who have been here for a while know, people post questions without bothering to search the forum for the same question asked before, usually several dozen times. For instance "black tanks sensors stopped working" comes on here at least 4 times a year. You can count on questions about winterizing every October.

If I remember seeing the question before, I'll do a quick search and drop a link to the previous thread(s). I've been told that this practice is considered rude by some people - too bad. I guess I could just parrot what was in the last thread.

Posting a link to a previous thread is not rude in my opinion. Rude is just posting something like "you dummy why did you not do a search before asking" I quit using RV.net for several years because of answers like that. I remember getting many replies like that a good many years back. It seems better now so I am giving it another try.

You have to ask the right question to get the right answer. If it's vague I just move on. Some know it all or 20 will answer it for them.

What I find more amusing is those that need more information (i.e make/model number)from the OP before they can help. When the OP posts that information the person needing that information never gives an answer or any sort or any acknowledgement back on the thread.

So the person that needs more information that never answers, are they really helping, or just being a PIA. :h

Some posters may leave out details to avoid people telling them to "Look on page 213 of your owner's manual where Ford tells you exactly what to do in that situation".

Generic question get generic answers.

Generic question will usually get at least ONE response asking for specific info.

If specific info isn't provided....then back to generic answers.

As far as I am concerned it is up to the OP to provide info, respond to requests for more info OR deal with basic generic info.

Guess the real question IS: Why can't OP post questions with real information vs just a generic question in the first place :H
