Anyone been turned away from campground for older rig?

I am a snowbird working my way north from Orlando each day. I called Add-more Campground in Clarksville, IN to make sure they were open and had a spot for one night. She started asking me a lot of questions and when I told her my "B" was a 17' 1992 GMC conversion van she they dont allow anything older than year 2000. When I asked why that information wasnt on their website she said "Well we got a lot of rules and they arent all on the website."

Has anyone else run into this kind of discrimination? Does it matter if a travel trailer is vintage?

And one more question. Is there some sort of "black list" for campers that campgrounds refer too?

There were a couple of RV parks here in the Lakeland, FL that also had age limits on the RV's. One park even turned away a 15 year Prevost that looked better than a new one. Thank goodness that one is now closed and replaced by a shopping center and the other one now has new management. The real kicker is that both parks had a few Old (like 20+ years) Travel Trailers sitting on blocks further in the back that were occupied.

It's been my experience that parks with 'age rules' far more often enforce them over the phone than they do in person. In fact I've never had an issue in person.

A couple years ago though a friend and I were heading to the same place and he phoned a particular c/g, they said "no, sorry" when he called. My rig is 2 years older than his. I was already checked in. He drove over anyway and never mentioned calling ahead, low and behold, the very same "Doris" that said "no, sorry" 2 hours earlier checked him in, no questions asked.

I suspect the folks that can't afford $5 in gas to show up in case they're turned away are the ones that aren't allowed in, not the rest of us.

funny thing is even if the rig is 10 years or newer they still let most of us in....LOL we stay at State Parks no problems there.

What I'm curious about is if the 10 year has influenced buying decisions. I do know it has affected what I chose to get... although the used rigs I looked at when before I bought my current TT were in pretty sad shape.

God help me I have never bought a camper that was under 10 years old at time of purchase!

I want to build a fancy resort and have a rule that no rv under 10 years allowed. Then see how long it takes all the people who say 10 yr. rule is justified to call their lawyers and sue for discrimination.

I filtered or "tents allowed" on Allstays figuring they wouldnt be "year fussy" and found plenty of private RV places around Dallas/Ft. Worth. Is that considered central TX?

Sorry, realized you were from Austin. When I put in the filter (allstays) for age restricted and no tents allowed, only 2 places popped up. OTOH, tents OK, all ages had 5 pop up. So who knows.

I have heard of age discrimination of RVs, but have not seen it.

I do wonder though, where do people with old restored vintage trailers like Boles Aero, Silver Streak, Airstream, etc. go? It would be fun to restore a nice old vintage TT, but would hate to be turned away at CGs.

i think the good sam directory and app should list restriction on camper age so those with restrictions can be filtered out. personally i am more concened about the attitude of other campers than the age of their rig.

There are lots of "Homeless" (usually with derelict RVs) - who take advantage (if they can) of RV parks.

Homeless - doesn't mean "Full Time" - it means they are working the system, defrauding the business (campground) owner when they can, if they can - by turning a couple of paid days - into long stays until evicted.

Unfortunately for "legitimate" campers, these folks often have aged Class C MHs.

Google the So. CA cities of, San Diego, Santa Monica and Venice (area of Los Angeles)- where the homeless park on residential streets, leaving trash & "liquid" waste.

It's a CYA for the campground owners...;)

We're planning a trip to TX. in June and was checking out some campgrounds and one place asked me the year and model of trailer I had. I told them and there next comment was you will need to email a picture and copy of the registration prior to making reservations to make sure we would be approved. Our trailer is a 2013 Gray Wolf 26BH. I told them no Thank You I don't think i'm interested. I completely understand rules but that was a first for me. No problem I just crossed them off my list.
