If it's a 14-19 version, it might have cylinder shut off, ie assist? That gets that motor 25mpg on freeway empty. Unless it's a hybrid, which there are a few out their.
With that said, assuming you have a 6 sp, the 3.08 gears gives you a lower low than my 2000 C2500 with 4.10s and the 4l80e fours so trans. You are not as bad off as you think. Altho if it's a 2012 or 13,;the 5.3 does not have the HP/torque numbers of the 14+ versions
I've towed 8000-8500 with my 2014 4.3 V6, trailer did not have the frontal area if many RV trailers, but pulled just fine.
Better performance than some BB V8 motors of your with 3/4 sp auto trannies.
