Are CB radios still used?

Recently bought my new motorhome (1994 Newmar). It has a factory CB radio in it. Was rather surprised, as CBs had long since faded away. However, in looking, I see that CBs are still options in even brand new motorhomes.

Are people still using these? I haven't used one in years.

Think about it ,your stuck in traffic for a long time.Theres the CB sitting there,do you want to find out whats happening? Better yet if your monitoring avoid it all together.What exit you can bypass the situation.Weather alert on certain models. Can always ask a question instead of having to stop for info.Seems if you travel alot it will be of help many times.

CB radios have not faded away. I use mine when approaching a city to chat with oncoming truckers to see if I should take N or S bypass or continue straight thru town. also at Richmond to see if I should take 295 or stay on I-95 to go through.
and IMHO a cell phone is worthless for this task, who you gonna call, ghost busters?
from my experience the "bad language" is not what it is blown up to be and if it occurs it is only transient in nature.

I agree. They have their useful times but, I don't want to listen to it all the time.
I wonder if those people talk to their kids and family the same way they talk on the C.B.?

Here also .. good for weather alerts, and to check weather as one is going down the road. If weather backs up the truckers are always on to let everyone know what is happening.

Have on in each of 3 tow vehicles. Nice for communication while traveling together (easier and less distracting than cell phone) plus helps in traffic when lane closures occur. I know which lane to be in well in advance

I think cellphones pretty much squashed the CB deal however, they can be useful for weather updates and emergency situations especially if there is no cell service available.

I have one in my motor home. If I get in heavy traffic, I turn it on to check for problems. The language has gotten so bad over the years that I don't leave it on.
