Asian Beetles....again!

We've just had our annual hatch of Asian Beetles; I was hoping we'd escaped it but no such luck. The pest control guy will be here next Monday to spray the house and garage. However, we're considering having him spray the outside of the 5er as well because we fought them for 2-3 months last year since we transported them to Texas with us. My concern is whether the pesticide will have a detrimental effect on the gel coat of the coach. Does anyone here have any experience or an informed opinion on this. Thanks for any replies.

Just keep your vacuum handy in your RV and swoop them up! 🙂 We had them once in Michigan and by the time we got down to Alabama they were gone.

You will never be able to control them in a RV with all the entry points they have.

They have not been bad around here for a couple of years. When they were I found a product called "Tempo" that you mix with water and spray around the doors and windows of your house to keep them out. It's not a restricted product and you can use it yourself. Cheaper then hiring someone to do it. I don't know if it will hurt your gel coat on your RV but, it did not hurt my vinyl siding on my house.

have you contacted your pest control company? they should know more about their chemicals than anybody ,

Thanks for keeping them all down there and reducing their number. We had them up here for a few years and they were all over everything.

The good news is that they don't mass congregate for more than a few weeks. During that time, I know a lot of folks control them with soap and water.

BTW, gel coat and fiberglass are fairly inert to chemicals when cured. I've seen boat hulls sprayed with hydrochloric acid to remove the scum on hulls.

Yup. That's the plan unless I find some direct information one way or the other.

Thanks for the replies. Prior to posting my inquiry I did some research and was able to identify the active ingredients in the most popular pest control chemicals used on Asian Beetles. I took that information and began trying to find how they reacted (if at all) with gel coat and fiberglass. Unfortunately, my research efforts didn't result in any useful information, whether it was my research efforts or that the information wasn't available. Also, Carriage is no longer in business, so contacting them isn't an option. Again, thanks for the replies. Keep them coming.

No opinion based on first hand knowledge but I would call the RV's maker and ask them since they should know what's the composition of the gel coat used. I'd also find out what chemicals will be used by the exterminator so you can tell the manufacturer thus making it easier for them to give you an informed response.

Have you tried Home Defense, it is a bug barrier and poison. It stays and they don't like it. Maybe spray it at every lace they would or could enter and places you don't want them to crawl. We use it around the foundation and windows etc and no bug problems and mice don't seem to like it either. If it gets washed off reapply I'm not saying it wll ctp the bugs. But maybe keep them on the outside and out of placees you don't want them to go.
