Boy did I make a mistake buying this piece of ****.....first off the fan runs all the time when in A/C mode.....this weekend it got into the high 40's so I turned it to heat and it cycled on and off all night....the air coming out of the roof ducts was only 70 degrees when it was running.... inside never got above 67 degrees......could not get gas furnace to come on....when I called Atwood the bimbo I spoke to told me that was the way it was suppose to work because it was too warm inside the camper for the heat pump to work......duh.....If I was her supervisor and listened in on this call I would have fired her because she did not have a clue what she was talking about.......when I told her I had certificate in A/C and knew what I was talking about she brushed me off......so be careful if you are considering a Atwood air command A/C...

Are you sure that there isn't a setting like Auto or something where the fan will only run when the A/C is called for?In regards to heat, a heat pump loses efficiency as the outside temperature drops. In the low to mid 40's my experience is that it is more efficient to run the furnace or other alternate heat. I have a heat pump both in my fiver and in my sticks and bricks home.

I’d be surprised that a company the size of Atwood produces a product that doesn’t work. First off though, as Blofgren mentioned, a heat pump doesn’t really work with air temperatures below about 42 deg. F. While I do not have that brand, mine are Coleman, the thermostats have settings for gas heat, A/C, heat pump, and fan continuous or automatic. What does the operation manual for yours say about this? Is there a trouble-shooting section?It sounds like the installer messed up some wiring or something. I would suggest you get someone to look at your setup.

She was clue less as to how the heat pump worked.......

I had my Coleman 15K heat pump running this morning. Fan never shuts off on it, but I have the temp knob turned up part way and have a comfortable 77º inside with compressor turning on/off. I didn't check output temps from it.It will put out heat down into the outside temps of high 30's. That only happens maybe a couple times in Jan. here. This morning low was 55º

I’d be surprised that a company the size of Atwood produces a product that doesn’t work.

First off though, as Blofgren mentioned, a heat pump doesn’t really work with air temperatures below about 42 deg. F.

While I do not have that brand, mine are Coleman, the thermostats have settings for gas heat, A/C, heat pump, and fan continuous or automatic.

If it's new take it back and ask for replacement or refund - your credentials are enough to convince me.

It is a strong possibility that the switch that turns on the gas furnace in the auto mode is also disabling the gas furnace in the manual mode. There may also be a design flaw which prevents the gas furnace from being used when there is no 110 volts.....thus not being able to get heat when just on battery power....

In your first post you said it was in the high 40’s, that’s close to the point where a heat pump doesn’t do much.

At marginal temps it will be difficult for the heat pump to satisfy the stat before the unit overheats and shuts down.

If the gas heat doesn’t come on until it’s 45 deg outside and you were in the ‘high 40’sk then the gas heat would not come on.

What is the model number of your unit?
