Bad back-Mattress Recommendations?

Anyone try a Tufts and Needle or Purple mattress ?

Thanks for all the good ideas. We bought the trailer used and the mattress is a complete piece of junk. You basically just sink to the bed--there ARE springs, but they're useless.

We have a sleep number at home (his is at 100, mine is 55!) didn't even think anyone would MAKE an adjustable in a short queen. Not sure if we can afford another sleep number, but I'll look into it and all the other ideas!

I don't want to spend a ton of money, but if he's in more pain than normal we'll all be miserable on trips.

We purchased a Saatva mattress for our 5th wheel a year ago and really like it. The best decision we made after a lot of research. It's expensive but like good tires for your rig - some things are worth it. I went with the Costco topper. It made a world of difference.

As others above have said....see if you can fit a real queen 60x80 and then go buy whatever you would sleep on at home. Leave the OEM mattress in plastic for the next owner to suffer with!!

A good bed is just as important camping as at home, so spending the $$$ that rv manufacturers wont is just a part of the game

Unless the bed in your camper is in a box, with a wall directly at the head and foot (like in a corner), you can add a full Queen mattress. Just let the extra length hang over the end. You loose a few inches at the foot of the bed, but getting a regular Queen is much easier than getting a short queen.

About the selection of a mattress? Why not get one that is identical to the one in your house? There's nothing special about RV's that has to be different than your house.

In our last camper, we replaced the short queen with a long queen. It was a Serta, identical to the one we had in the hosue. We kept the original mattress and when we traded for our current camper, we swapped mattress back, thinking we'd put the new one for the old camper in the new camper. Found out we didn't need to. Our Outback came with a really decent mattress! It's extremely comfortable. We were surprised.

What did we do with the one we bought? Well, we tossed one out on one of our guest beds in the house and put it on there. Now both our Master Bed room and guest room have the same mattress, except one is a King and the other is Queen.

So you know, what ever you are using in your house, just get the same for the camper. Problem solved!

We also have a 3" memory foam topper and it has made the bed so much more comfortable. Any mattress should feel firmer on a platform vs a box spring.

Tempurpedic makes a great mattress, has helped my back, a little expensive but has been worth every penny. Every mattress is made to order and they can make any size you want. Good luck.

We replaced ours with a mattress from Sleep Country, in Canada, but should be lots of mattress stores in the States. Many of their showroom models were available in 60 by 75 size as special order (took less than a week to get in). We were able to get an RV mattress that was almost identical to the one in our house so there is no adjustment time when going from one to the other. Well worth the cost.
