Have an Allegro Bus. Presently towing 1972 Jeep C7. Thinking of buying Fiat hatchback. Any suggestions for worry free towing. Using a tow bar for flat 4 wheel towing now.
The 2014 Fiat is only towable if it has a manual transmission. If this is what you want, then you are fine. It can't be towed 4 wheels down with an automatic tranny.
Automatic transmission that is towable 4 wheels down?
All wheel drive - or is front wheel drive fine?
I have a all wheel drive Ford Edge that is set up for 4 wheels down towing, and I like it. It has lots of power, I am 6'4" and fit in the front or back seat fine! It has room for a fold up wheelchair in the back, and seats a total of 5. It is a rare car that can hold 3 car seats in the back. Most can only fit 2 car seats, unless you find some really skinny car seats.
The Edge is 4,200 pounds, much more than the Fiat. It also has a great safety rating, in fact a survey of all cars in 2009 that where built from 2005 to 2008 showed that no drivers died in accidents in a Ford Edge or 4 other cars. Some had as many as 87 deaths per 100,000 cars produced, and some more or less than that amount. Even the larger pickups, like a 3/4 ton Chevy truck had 127 deaths per 100,000 vehicles.
I know that if I was going to be in a accident, I would rather be driving my Edge than the Kia Rio that my wife picked out. . . Yet the Kia saves me $200 a month in fuel driving 50 miles round trip daily! So there is some trade off's.
Well from doing a limited survey in about 40 campgrounds this summer the CR-V is probably number one followed by Jeep everything else is a distant third. Bill
