Black Tank Fills Quickly......

There are usually 3 or 4 of us when we go camping. On a 7 day trip we will usually have to dump the black 1/2 way through the trip because it's near the bottom of the bowl. When we are leaving after 7 days the tank is almost full again but I'll step on the pedal to get some more water in the tank before dumping.

Now here's my issue. We'll dump the black when we are packing up to go home and then run the black water flush line for a few minutes with the black valve open. This gets a lot the **** out. Then we'll close the black and shut the flush off. We really like to clean our tanks so we'll have someone stand on the toilet pedal for a few minutes to fill the black up with fresh water again. Filling up the tank this way takes FOREVER! I can't believe how long it takes, 10-15 minutes of standing on the foot pedal to get the black filled up again.

Why does it take so long to fill up this way when it only takes 3 days to fill the tank up under normal use? Yes, I understand that more than just water is going down under normal use but the numbers just don't add up. Does anyone else experience this?

If you just want to fill the black tank with water, instead of using the toilet flush pedal why don't you simply leave the flush connection running and close the black tank drain valve? ....and of course monitor the tank closely so you don't overfill!

Some black tanks also take the shower water. One of mine did. One day at home I dumped into the shower and watched the outfall out of the tanks as I was clearing for the winter. The black tank took the shower, and the grey tanks were only for sinks. It's good to know how yours works, then educate the people using it.

Some RV's have the bathroom sink plumbed into the black tank.

Our Endura was designed this way. Explained why 3 people could fill a black tank so fast. If you use a lot of tp it will also add to how fast the tank is filled.

If it's the jayco your talking about, that model only has a 22 gallon black tank. If you want a visual confirmation of when it's full. Next trip take a 5 gallon water can and after emptying, dump 4 cans of water down the toilet to see how high the level looks when the tank is full.

Good point; some trailers mix the grey and black. Never had a trailer like that though and would not want such.

How do you know your black tank is full or filling up?

Optical allusion in some cases because the black tanks are only as tall as your frame rails which could be 6 or 7 inches tall. So you're looking into a very thin tank (that tank might be 40 gallons or more)!

But the the tank is also long and wide and should hold the gallons your trailer specifies. I've seen the same thing; you think the tank is almost full but it's got a LONG way to go before it's really full.
