Blue Ox Patriot

We are getting ready to tow our Suzuki Grand Vitara V6 behind our Minnie Winnie. Looking at tow bars, etc., and specifically brake systems. Our manual states that we need to run the vehicle through the gears every 200 miles or so while towing.

How easy is this to do with the Patriot Brake?

We're also looking at the Readybrute Elite with the integrated surge brake. We will only tow the one vehicle so no need to switch the brake system from vehicle to vehicle.

Most Hitch retailers up here in Canada push the Blue Ox product. I haven't yet found anyone familiar with installation of the Readybrute system. We will need someone to professionally install whatever system we choose. Thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.
  • If there are two of you you could have someone inside push down on the break lever on the control box while you run through the gears.
  • I also tow jeep with no restrictions. PITA to start vechle every 200 miles with Patriot in vehicle.. Jeep doesn't have those restrictions.
  • I use a Patriot Brake but my toad has no restrictions. If you have to press the brake or clutch to start the engine you will have to remove the brake box. That might get old in a hurry. Otherwise I think you could start the engine and shift it thru the gears. You would be depending on the MH to keep the car from moving.

I have never done this so maybe someone with more experience will reply.
