I was going to say if the car shifter won’t move, check for brake lights, then the 15a fuse under the hood. The vacuum fitting definitely needs to be in the right direction as it is a one way valve. I know my Invisibrake pulls the brake pedal part way down when activated. If it goes a long way down, there would probably be some slack in the cable. The cable is the only connection to the brake pedal so try disconnecting it and see if that changes things. Good luck.
